      Review & Installation Video

This Power Stop Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow Brake kit is for the rear of your 2007 to 2018 JK and it's gonna be for those of you that are looking to squeeze a little bit more braking performance out of the back of the Jeep. Now those rear brakes really only do a fraction of the braking anyway. So in my mind, this is really for those of you that have already upgraded the front brakes. You've squeezed as much as you can out of the front, you need to replace rotors and pads in the rear anyway, so you figure might as well do a little bit of an upgrade, get a little bit more braking. This is going to be a very simple one out of three wrench installation. Of course your rotors and your pads are going to be a wear item, they're designed to be replaced, so very, very simple to do in your driveway and we'll talk more about that in just a second. So when you're upgrading the brakes the front is definitely the place to start, that is the area that does the most braking and you can decide if you want to go with a kit like this that's going to give you a little bit more braking power but be nice and easy to install and a little bit less expensive, or if you want to go with one of those big brake kits that's going to give you a bigger set of rotors, it's going to either give you caliper brackets or possibly even new calipers as well, all designed to give you more mechanical advantage to the brakes and give you more stopping power. Once you've done the front as far as you want to take it, again then this is a way that you can squeeze a little bit more power out of the back without having to get one of those more expensive and more difficult to install big brake kids. Now because this is a kit from Power Stop everything is going to work very well together, you know it's gonna fit right out of the box, so you are gonna pay a little bit more for a kit like this coming from a good brand name like Power Stop. But in my opinion when it comes to brakes it's worth it to pay a little bit more for the quality. So what you're gonna get in this kit is a set of the Z36 Extreme brake pads. These are going to be carbon fiber ceramic composite, so these are going to be nice and quiet keep, the dust down, but they're designed to work under a lot of load, designed to work under some pretty high heat stress. And you're not really gonna be towing in your Jeep and your Jeep isn't particularly heavy, but if you do install some big wheels and tires you're gonna have some more rotating mass and you have lot of additional size there, so it can almost affect the brakes in the same way as moving around a heavier or loaded vehicle. So that's where these are going to come in for your Jeep and that's how they're going to be beneficial for your Wrangler. Over here you're going to have a new set of rotors, these are gonna be drilled and slotted rotors. And the idea behind the drilling and the slotting is that it will give the gases that are produced during braking a place to go, that way you end up with a bigger contact patch between the pad and the rotor, therefore more friction and more stopping power. Now some people don't like a drilled and slotted rotor on a Jeep that goes off-road a lot because it can give a place for mud to get packed in, small stones, rocks, just whatever debris, and that can tear up your pad. So depending on how you use your Jeep and what you wanna get from it, a drilled and slotted rotor may or may not be something that you're interested in. In this kit it is going to come with it and it is going to give you some better braking performance certainly on the road. This kit's gonna come in at $180, I think that's a pretty good deal for what you're gonna get here, it falls right in the middle. So those big brake kits that include more components and are a little bit more difficult to install, they're going to provide you with a lot more braking power but they are more expensive and more difficult to install. On the flip side of that you have OEM style rotors and pads, if you just need to replace what you have from the factory, you can get something a little bit less expensive. This is going to give you a little bit more braking power and also just be a little bit more expensive, so I think it falls exactly where it should on the price range. Like I mentioned, one out of three wrenches here for the installation, all you have to do is unbolt the caliper from the caliper bracket, that'll allow you to remove your old pads. Remove the caliper bracket, that will allow you to remove your old rotor. Slide the new rotor on, put the caliper bracket back into place, install the new pads and bolt the caliper back on to the bracket. So if you're looking to squeeze a little bit more braking power out of your Jeep, I would recommend taking a look at this kit from Power Stop and you can find it right here at

        Stops better

Z36 brakes are a much improvement over the stock brakes. I switched to bigger tires - takes longer to stop with stock brakes. The z36 brakes improved the stopping distance when driving with bigger tires.

After adding the weight of armor and bigger tires and seeing I needed new brakes anyways. I decided to swap it all out with this kit. Very easy install and much improved stopping power. Well worth it.

5 2014 Wrangler - PaulusW Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Easy Install

I received the order in good condition, it comes with everything you need to replace your brake shoes and rotors, caliper grease and rubber boots for your calipers. The only thing you need to get is a can of brake cleaner.. The clips fit perfect, brake rotors are clearly marked and it took me less then an hour. If you can change a tire, you can do this.

        Immediate improvement over stock

I replaced my front brakes/rotors with the same kit and just installed the rear brake/rotor kit for my 08jk. Immediate improvement in braking and the kit comes with everything you need to get safely on the road. If you're running bigger tires, this is a great kit to help slow down the extra rotating mass.
