Hey, guys. It's Sara from extremetrain.com. And today, we have a review and install of the PowerStop OE Replacement Brake Pad and Rotor Kit for the rear of your '07 through '18 Jeep Wrangler JK. This kit is designed to be a complete OE rear replacement and consists of non-directional rotors with ceramic brake pads for enhanced stopping power with no noise and minimal dust. Coming in at around $75 for this kit, this is one of the most budget-friendly alternatives to OEM. I'm giving this install a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This kit includes everything you need to do your rear brakes, features a bolt-up installation and can be done in approximately two hours. All right, with that said, let's jump right into our install. For this install, you will need a rubber mallet, an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench, a 15-millimeter skinny wrench, a 13-millimeter socket, a ratchet, a caliper tool, a caliper hanger, and a flathead screwdriver. All right, guys, so the first step in your uninstall is to grab a 13-millimeter socket and a 15-millimeter skinny wrench and remove the bolt out of the back of our caliper. Slide the wrench over the section here in the center to hold it still while you loosen the bolt at the back. Repeat that for the bolt at the bottom. At this point, grab a caliper hanger tool or a bungee cord and we're gonna hang our caliper out of the way. Just be sure there's no any tension on this brake line here. Since there's not a ton of room back here, we're gonna grab an 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench and remove the two bolts holding on your caliper bracket. And remove your bracket. All right, now we can remove our rotor. We're gonna grab a rubber mallet and give it a few taps at the back where the caliper used to sit. Before you do this though, I suggest threading on a lug nut just to be sure it doesn't fly off and hurt anyone. Now that we have our factory brakes uninstalled from our Jeep, we can put it side by side with our PowerStop brake kit and really check out some of the similarities and differences. So unlike PowerStop's, other performance upgrade kits, this kit was designed to be an OE replacement. So if you do a lot of off-roading or you need a performance upgrade, you may want to consider one of their other kits. However, if you're looking for a nice OE replacement and you want to save a couple of bucks this kit is definitely the one for you. At this point, we can remove our pads from our caliper bracket and replace the included metal brackets that hold these pads in. You can do this just by pinching them and they should slide out. At this point, you can remove the metal brackets that are still in your caliper racket. If you can't push them out with just a thumb, you can definitely use a small flathead screwdriver. With all of our metal brackets removed, we can install our new ones. It's important to choose the right bracket when you're placing it on your caliper bracket. The curved edge of this tab goes on the outside, it also has a small ear up top and the larger flat tab goes on this larger ridge here on the bottom. Line it up, get the smaller tab on the inside here and then snap it in place. Grab another bracket, you're gonna be looking for one with a mirror configuration to the other side. Slide the tab over the inside and then snap it in place. Now we can replace our new metal brackets on the top here. Again, we just want to choose the curved tab for the outside edge, you can also spot this little ear here. Do the same thing with the other side. Snap your final bracket in place. At this point, you want to grab the included lubricant and lubricate all of these brackets so that your brake pads can slide back and forth in them. You can also lube the corner of your brake pads if you'd like but I like while we're here to just give these a little coating. At this point, we can install our new rotors. Now I do want to note that these come oiled from the factory and you want to remove those oils before using them on your Jeep. You can spray this outside with the little bit of Brakleen to remove those, and since this is a drum, you also want to spray the inside as well. Let's get these mounted. Now we can install our caliper bracket using the factory bolts. Install the lower bolt on new caliper bracket and grab your 18-millimeter ratcheting wrench and tighten these down. We can now install our new brake pads. Place the tab in the bottom of the metal brackets we installed earlier and then slide it into the tab on the top. The brake pad with the feeler installs at the back, get the tab into your bracket and slide it on. At this point, we can unhang our caliper and compress the piston end using our caliper tool. Once it's compressed nearly all the way in, slide it over top of the brake pads. Make sure it clears the sliders as well. Now you can grab the bolts for the back of your caliper and install those. Reinstall the bolts at the back of your caliper. Grab your skinny 15-millimeter wrench to hold the inside of the slider still and your 13-millimeter socket and tighten these down. All right, with this side complete, you want to repeat the steps for your other side. And then that's gonna do it for the review and install of our PowerStop Brake Kit. Remember for all things Jeep, keep it at extremeterrain.com.
