Merideth: If you need a bit more bite when it comes to your braking performance, these front PowerStop Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads will be a great set to look into for your 2018 or newer JL Wrangler. Now, these will be a great set to check out if you need to do some maintenance to your JL and you need brake pads that will hold up for longer while also being able to handle a higher gross weight if you've added larger wheels and tires or heavier armor to the Jeep. Now, even though these are higher-performance brake pads for heavier jeeps or towing applications, these will also remain very comfortable for everyday drivability if you are daily driving your Wrangler, but you do need that extra bite when it comes to your brakes. This kit will feature all four front brake pads and all of the hardware needed to go with it.Now, like I mentioned, the pads though being a higher performance option, will be comfortable being incredibly quiet and unnoticeable compared to other higher performance applications. These pads will also have a dust-free friction formula that will keep your wheels cleaner for longer, so you don't have to constantly be scrubbing your wheels. The pads themselves will have the Z36 carbon-fiber ceramic formula, which will offer that extra bite for extreme braking performance, as it says in the name. This will also feature premium high stainless steel shims to eliminate vibrations and keep breaking noise very low for the best comfortability. Now with all that being said, a PowerStop also backs this with a 30-day, 500-mile limited warranty to keep a piece of mind after they're installed. Now, these will also have the rear matching set available on the page if you're looking for the same performance for the rear as well. Now when it comes to price, these will come in at roughly $75 for the front pads, which I think is a pretty great price point. Now comparing these to other PowerStop options, the Z36 will be one of your highest-performance options when it comes to pads for towing and heavy truck applications, while the Z26 and Z16 are for lighter and more entry-level applications. Now in comparing these to other options available on the page, some other choices may be made out of a different compound like organic or semi-metallic materials, which may not hold up as long, especially with heavier loads like this option does. Now it does come down to your application at the end of the day. So if your Jeep's weight is up there due to your heavier accessories and you want super responsive braking with a pad that you can trust, then this is going to be a great pick for you. Now install will be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about two hours to get the job done with some pretty basic hand tools. Now speaking of the install, one of our customers here has actually installed this on their JL and is gonna walk you through what that process looks like step by step. So that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Male Speaker: Tools used for this project include a jack stand, a hydraulic jack or equivalent, impact wrench with a 22-millimeter socket to remove the tire, a 13-millimeter socket and wrench to remove the caliper pin bolts, a torque wrench, a C-clamp, and a small block of wood. Today we're gonna be installing front brake pads for a 2019 Jeep Wrangler, JLUR. First things first, we're gonna chalk the rear tire. We're gonna jack up the front, do the driver's side first, jacked it up, and put a jack stand underneath. Next will be the removal of the tire. Essentially what we're gonna need to do is loosen the bottom caliper bolt and then remove the upper caliper bolt, let the caliper swing away. We may need to compress the piston. Several ways to do that, especially if you don't have the right proper tool. And then, put on the new brake pads, and reinstall the caliper.Believe we're gonna need a 13-millimeter socket. We're only gonna loosen the bottom one, but we're gonna remove the top bolt. And at this point, we should be able to just let this swing away, which is doing right there. And now we can simply slide the pads out. Take note, because the one on the backside has the noise indicator, the brake wear indicator, which causes the brakes to squeal once they get down to a below a certain level. All right. So, we don't really need to, but at this point, I'm just gonna go ahead and replace them. Little 10 clips. Pop in like so. All right. So all new clips are in the grease that comes with it. Grease the back side of the pads, and it also tells you what other points that need to be lubed. You can simply remove the bolt lube, that portion of the two bolts.Gonna go ahead and skip that spot since these seem to be properly lubed as they are. All right. Now that we got that on, I am gonna take some break cleaner, even though just to give it a once over, make sure the rotors are clean. All right. Remember we had the one brake pad with the brake wear indicator on it. That one goes in the back, the front side one goes into this notch. A little tricky. Slide it in there, get a little twist, and push this thing out of the way to the left and slide right. Okay. Kind of hard to see that from the backside. That's just a repeat process. Okay. Those are on. Now we're gonna take a C-clamp, little block of wood. Go ahead and give the pistons a little compression. Doesn't need a lot. Depends on how worn your brakes are, but you gotta do them at the same time [inaudible 00:07:46.721].Okay. That might do it. Okay, there we go. Caliper's back on. The caliper bolt goes back in. Then we take our 13-millimeter socket and wrench, and I believe the torque is 24 foot-pounds. We'll go ahead and double-check. Usually, hand tight is sufficient. All right, a little quick look in the manual on the internet, it reveals that the torque is 11 foot-pounds, and you can see a little hand tight. That's good enough. Now we're gonna go ahead and put the tire back on and lower the vehicle, and we'll be complete.Merideth: So, that's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of the Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers. And remember, for all things Jeep, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
