I love this tire carrier
I have wanted this for a while. It’s a bear to install mostly because of the bolts in the Jeep you have to get loose. But once it’s on I Am very happy with it.Helpful (1)

I have always liked this design from OR-Fab because it maximizes the space to carry your spare, jerry cans, and hijack in one solid unit. Forgoing the need to buy additional bolt on components to achieve the same result. After spending two days getting the brackets in place. Drilling holes, dry fitting, and minor modifications (I really needed a drill press but a drill worked well too.), and figuring out how to install it without instructions, I still like the design. The let down is when it came to dry fitting it, I found myself almost an inch off from actually being able to close the swing arm due to the closing latch. Now I have to spend additional money to re-weld the hook for the closing latch. This is the only option because the passenger side bracket holes line up perfectly. Small additional price to pay for something I really wanted. I just have to count my lucky stars that the holes lined up and I still have bolts left over. Sidenote, I had to re-use some of the factory bolts because the ones provided don't fit in the factory threads. Rather stripping them out, I just re-used what I had. Lesson learned from all this, buy the product but pay someone else to put it on for you. 2006 TJ Wrangler Golden EagleHelpful (3)

Not an EZ Install
The packing of the tire carrier was the best I've seen. I mean, who fills a box with spray foam and wooden support these days? But that's where it stops. No installation instructions. Hardware that is too much of one type and not enough of another. Insufficient amount of hardware the required two trips to the store. Brackets that fit poorly. And in the end, gate swings about an inch off and needs to be forced closed. I was able to find the installation instructions online, but they are severely lacking. The instructions were on a Wrangler website, as OR-Fab doesn't even have the TJ instructions on their website. Good thing I wasn't somewhere where you don't get internet service, or I would have been out of luck. Still happy I did the install, but I would only recommend this if you are absolutely sure you want this type of tire carrier. If not, you could save yourself a weekend and I truly mean a whole weekend.Helpful (3)

Great tire carrier but a big project.
I would buy it again, but I would hate to install it again. We had to use our own hardware in a few places, the gas can mounts leave a lot to be desired, and you really need to think ahead to the finished project before drilling each hole. Definitely requires fabrication experience or at least a good amount of redneck ingenuity. Set aside an entire Saturday. Took myself and a friend 6 hours, and my friend does stuff like this pretty often. It's worth it though, looks great and it's solid.Helpful (3)

The only thing that gives it a 4 and not a 5 there’s no instructions I called the manufacturer and they told me to watch YouTube vids ,I did from the redneck garage it helped but it’s not step by step . Once I got into the meat of it it’s not that difficult. I like how strong it is and the looks.Helpful (8)

Solid, well-built carrier.
The previous reviewer apparently did not read the instructions closely when he installed this carrier on his TJ and left a three-star review as a result. In the section labeled "finish the installation", it very clearly states: "... it may be necessary, depending on your wheel and tire combination, to slightly align the tire carrier so that it hits above the striker plate cup. This is to allow for tire weight and tire carrier flex." I followed this step myself (as others have as well) and were able to properly align the tire carrier to its striker plate while under the load of the tire with no issues. This tire carrier gets rave reviews on the forums I visit and from myself as well. It's a great, beefy addition to my TJ that I'm very happy with.Helpful (9)

Seem Solid but the fit isn't very good.
I received the item 12/28/18. I was very excited to find this carrier as I thought it was discontinued for many years. The fit on the inside driver side required 2 holes to be re drilled in the proper location. Further the tire carrier sags 1.5" below the latch with only my 35" spare no cans or hi-lift. This means to latch it you have to remove some wight for the system. The carrier feels very strong and despite having to pick the one side up in order to latch it closed, it does feel solid. I think it will last rattle free and wont sag further once I add the extra items. The carrier does not wiggle back and forth and nor does it make noise so far.Helpful (15)
Do you need to buy a specific bumper for this tire carrier?
It is not necessary to purchase a specific bumper with this carrier, it can be used with the stock bumper.
Is this the same OR-Fab that went out of business that made this quality tire carrier?
This is the same Or-Fab company that did go out of business before opening back up.
How heavy is the empty carrier and bracketry?
The OR-Fab Tubular Tire Carrier weights approximately 81 lbs (Including all hardware and brackets).
Do you offer kit that is available for the gas cans that fit this carrier, if not where can they be purchased? This would be installed on a 06 LJ
This tire carry does not have a kit that would include the two 5 gallon jerry cans but you should be able to fit any 5-gallon/20-liter jerry can.
When OR-Fab came back, this bumper went to using a RotopaX system. Is this the new RotopaX or the standard Gerry can? Is the RotopaX system available?
This specific one is only able to work with standard Jerry can mounts, however there is a newer version that I will link below that is made to work for the RotopaX system. https://www.extremeterrain.com/orfab-swing-away-tire-carrier-w-rotopax-or-jerry-can-mounts-0718-jk.html
These are very water resistant, however we would recommend grabbing a winch cover. As with anything, it will last much longer if properly protected from the elements when not in use.
This will work with the set up you have yes.
We do not have the exact dimensions to the tire carrier to verify fitment on the YJ.
