Review & Install Video
Hey, guys. So today I'm here with the N-Fab Cab Length RKR Side Rails, fitting all 2016 and newer Double Cab Toyota Tacomas. So one of the most vulnerable places on your truck is your rocker area, and you definitely wanna keep it protected. And this option by N-Fab is gonna do just that. So this is going to protect your side rocker area as well as your pinch weld underneath from any of those lower obstacles on the trail or really anything kicking up from your front tire. So if you're on the trail, you come down on a stump or a rock, this is going to take the blow and keep your rocker area protected and keep that obstacle off of your body of your truck.
Now, these are gonna be very durable, made of a twin tube, steel tube construction. They are gonna be 1 3/4-inch thick with a side wall of 0.12 inches, so they are gonna be able to take the blow of really anything that you come in contact with on the trail. They are also gonna have a nice textured black power coat finish. It's gonna give you a more off-road feel and look to your truck, but it's also gonna protect that steel underneath from any rust or corrosion.
Now, what I do really like about these side steps is that they're very compact. They sit very high up to the rocker and are very close to that rocker area, keeping you away or keeping you not hung up on any obstacles on the trail. The only thing, if I did have to nitpick, I would like to see them come out a little bit farther, giving you a little bit more side protection. Nonetheless, these are still gonna take the blow. These are still going to get the job done on the trail when you need it to.
So speaking of that protection, these are gonna for you guys out there that are focused on the protection and don't need a boost up into your truck like some other options that also have the dual-purpose of a side step. However, N-Fab does have the option to purchase steps separately to mount up to the side rails, or on our site, we do even offer it in a package if you are looking for that dual purpose of getting a boost up into your truck as well as getting some heavy-duty side protection.
Nonetheless, these are gonna be roughly $500, making these very averagely priced for a rock slider on the page. Now, like I mentioned before, other less expensive options are usually gonna have that dual-purpose of some lighter protection as well as a step to get help you get in your truck. Now, those aren't going to be as heavy-duty as this is, and that's where the price is gonna jump a little bit just because this is focused on that heavy-duty protection, instead of lighter door dings in the parking lot and anything on fire trails. Now, I personally think that these are very well-built, they look very good on the side of the truck, and you can tell that they will perform when you do take a hit on the trail.
So install's gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It's gonna be six bolts, and you're gonna need one tool to get the job done. So speaking of that, let's jump into the install now. The tools that I used for my install were a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and a 13-millimeter deep socket. So the first step of your install is to make sure that you have the correct side or whatever side that you are doing first, and then you need your hardware and a 13-millimeter socket and ratchet as well as something comfortable to lay on. And then we can head underneath the Tacoma.
So I'm gonna start with the middle mount here. There are threaded holes in the underside of the Tacoma, so once we get our hardware in place, we'll be able to hang our step here for our slider. And we have one more at the bottom. So, it is a little bit difficult to see because this bracket may be blocking it, but there are two holes in the rock slider as well as in the body of the Tacoma.
So once you get those two threaded in, we can head up to the front and go ahead and thread in the other two bolts. And we can move up to our front bracket. It is gonna look a little bit different than our rear and middle bracket. It's gonna be a little bit easier to see. We're gonna thread our provided hardware, our flat washer, lock washer, and bolt into the body of our Tacoma. So after all of our bolts are threaded in, we can take a 13-millimeter socket and tighten them all down.
That's gonna wrap it up for my quick review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe, and for more videos like this, always keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
