Features
Wheelbase Modification Kit. The Motobilt Wheelbase Stretch Kit; Bare Steel is designed to shift the rear axle of your Jeep CJ approximately six inches rearward by enabling the use of Jeep XJ rear leaf springs. This modification improves vehicle stability by optimizing ride height and center of gravity, making it essential for off-road performance enhancements.
Construction and Appearance. Crafted from 3/16 inch laser cut steel plate, the kit features a durable rear bumper integrated with high-mounted shackle hangers and sturdy 3/4 inch thick d-ring recovery mounts welded on both sides. The shackles are precision-cut from 1/4 inch high-strength steel plate and include a third cross bolt for added support. The finish is bare steel, ready for custom treatment.
Installation. Installation requires moderate mechanical skill and involves removing the factory gas tank. The bumper welds to the back of the factory cross member with side frame plates. Some structural modifications may be necessary, including cutting and rewelding spring perches for wider axles. Hardware is not included and will require six 1/2”x5” grade 8 bolts with lock washers and nuts. No poly bushings are included in this kit.
Application. Specifically engineered to fit 1976 to 1986 Jeep CJ7 models, this kit does not fit other Jeep generations or body styles. It works well with aftermarket fuel cells or stretch fuel tank and skid options, though spring perches might need modification to accommodate wider axles. Removal of the factory fuel tank is required for proper installation.
