I have '89 Wrangler YJ with factory steep side molding fro front fender to rear fender.. will the hide-a-step fit , how do you fasten it and how far does it drop I have 3.5" lift with 33" tires

wesD

  • The M.O.R.E. Hide-A-step Black will not clear the molding on Wranglers with the added molding such as the Renegade models. This will drop approximately 4 inches, combined with its lower mounting point, this will allow for approximately 11" lower "step up" point.

I have a 2017 Unlimited Sport with the Big Bear package and have "Rock Rails". Other questions seem to be about Rubicon. Will this fit on my rig with the Rock Rails? If so, will I have to remove the Rock Rail to install the Hide-A-Step?

AnthonyF

  • The M.O.R.E. Hide-A-step will fit with the Black bear rock rails, but there will be reduced room to fit your foot for using the step.

Need to look around no more, if you need help getting in your jeep or maybe your better half, this is the product you are looking for. My wife is super happy with the steps because now she can get in the wrangler without problems. Installation is super easy for those handy persons and even if you are not handy it will not take you more than two hours, I got mine done in under an hour both sides.

Review from M.O.R.E. Hide-A-step Black (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    Short Wife

Works perfect on my 17 Wrangler Unlimited and now my short wife can get in without complaint. Watched reviews on how to install and had to loosen the rock rail at all points to be able to wiggle the bracket into place (no big deal). Had to use two plastic ties to hold the spring on the bracket about half way while I wiggled the bracket under the rail and between the frame. Also, put a hammer handle between the bracket and the frame which helped a lot. I am a beginner at this type of thing. Spent an hour or so researching installation tips and it took me 45 minutes once I opened the box until completion.

Review from M.O.R.E. Hide-A-step Black (07-18 Wrangler JK)

A tough install, but work great

Installed on a 2013 Rubicon unlimited. Slider has to be almost completely removed to get it under the slider mount and due to the shape of the frame it was not a really good fit. Not sure the pre-2013 JKs have the same frame. This made it hard to slide it onto the 2 slider mount studs, actually had to ream the holes a little to get it to go. It appears to be made for a frame with a flat bottom surface and since the frame bottom was not flat the mount is at a bit of an angle, so does not fit flush to the body where the 2 slider mounting studs go through either. It actually tweaks the body a bit when tightened. It still looks great and works well, as expected.

    Works great, very snug fit...

Had tube steps and wanted to replace. Bought SmittyBilt rock rails and this hide a step. The installation took about 2 hrs all together. The picture in the instructions is unclear but installation is manageable. The step was expensive but well constructed. A must have if your co pilot is short like my fiance.

    simple and strong

This hide a way step was so easy to install it practically snapped into place. It used existing holes as you lay on your back, was not only a fast install, but allowed you to enjoy the day as well. Once it was installed, My 230lbs climbed right onto it and the jeep shook with every hop. My friend who is 4'7" can now jet in my jeep easily. The springs hold it is place quite well. It folds up nicely.

    M.O.R.E. Hide-a-Step

Good quality product. Will probably put one on drivers side eventually. Installation not nearly as easy as instructions make out to be. Had to pull rock rail off to get on. Studs from rock rail barely stick bracket and pinch seam, hard to get lock started. Had go without washers. Otherwise pretty cool

    HOW TO EXTENDED YOUR STEP

IF YOU HAVE A BARRACADE SLIDER WITH A STEP MY YJ HAS A 5IN LIFT BUT WIFE CAN'T GET IN. SO I BOUGHT TH HIDE-A-STEP. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE STEP PART IS TO SMALL. I;LL WILL BE TAKEN PIC'S ON HOW TO FIX THAT PROBLEM. IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THAT PROBLEM WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW. BY THE WAY IT IS VERY WELL MADE. YJDAVE TN.

Great step. It's very robust and easy to install. The pins for easy removal when going off-road are a nice feature. Only downside is that they are a bit pricy for one step.

Review from M.O.R.E. Hide-A-step Black (07-18 Wrangler JK)

    Hide a Step

The product works as advertised. Fit and finish are good and it feels sturdy (important for a step) when you use it. On the plus side: It was fairly easy to install - just jam it open with a short round socket and it should slip into place under the rubi rail bracket. I ditched the supplied hardware and used the factory Jeep bolt. Simple cantilever design folds up and stays put. Negatives: Its spendy for what it is at 130.00 dollars (at the time of purchase) its not a great value. Should be priced in the 65.00 to 75.00 dollar range. It doesn't come down far enough - it should come down 2 or 3 more inches to make it more usable. Overall it does what you ask it to.

    Works, but needs better instructions

The product does what it is intended to do. The installation instructions are extremely vague and it would be very helpful if a template was included for marking the holes to drill for mounting the step.
