      Review & Installation Video

Hey guys. Today I'm here with the Mopar removable roof rack fitting all 2018 JL Wranglers with a hardtop. So everybody knows that storage space inside the Wrangler is very limited. So that's why outside storage solutions really come in handy. So this is for the JL owner looking to carry all of that extra cargo on top of the Wrangler that they don't want in the back of their Wrangler for any beach trips, long road trips, going out fishing or camping, or really any other time that you need to carry some extra cargo. This is going to be very easy removable, as it says in the name. You're gonna need two hand tools to get this off and put it back on. So you can do this on the go when you're using it and you can take it off and store it away since it is lightweight, very easily whenever you're not using it. So I would like to mention that Mopar and myself do not recommend mounting up any heavy canoes or any heavy paddle boards just because of the weight restrictions and limitations on the actual hardtop, not necessarily the roof rack. Nonetheless, this fits very well and it looks very clean compared to other big and bulky roof racks that you do see on the site. So I think that definitely is a benefit of this. So at the moment, this will roughly be $300. And with Mopar, you usually are paying a premium. However, the quality is definitely held up into this product. So there are similar options on the page that are less expensive than this, however, not by much. So if you trust Mopar and want the quality out of Mopar, then this product is definitely for you. Personally, I think this fits very well. It's very easy to put on and take off and the quality is definitely up there. Plus this comes with a one-year limited warranty for a little bit of peace of mind. So I think that the price is definitely fair. So install is gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It only took me 15 minutes to get this rack on with two hand tools. And one of the hand tools is actually given to you by Mopar. So speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were a flat-head screwdriver and the provided four millimeter Allen key. So the first step of our install is to loosen up our mount so that we can mount it up on our Jeep. I'm gonna take a flat head screwdriver and go over to the side cover here. There is a little lock. So as soon as you turn it sideways, you'll be able to pull that cover off and then we have access to the inside bolt where we can loosen up this mount here. Now we can take our provided Allen key and loosen this bolt up. We wanna make sure that we loosen it up in order to get it on the Jeep. But we do not want to fully take it off. So you can see that our mount is loose. I'm gonna do that on both sides. What I'm doing here is just putting my finger on the back to make sure that it's not completely out, just giving myself a reference of the length of the actual bolt. They are on pretty tight right out of the box. So now we're ready to mount this up and test fit it on our JL. You wanna make sure that the thicker portion of the roof rack is facing towards the front of the Jeep and they will also have a sticker on here for reference. I have another person helping me because I am short and I don't wanna scratch our roof. So you also wanna make sure that on a four-door that it is roughly seven inches back, and on a two-door, you wanna make sure that it is roughly five inches back. So now we can install our second rail. So the spacing between the back rail and the front rail will depend on you and your preference. So now that we have both of our rails on here, we're just gonna go around and tighten everything down with the same provided Allen key. And they did notice a couple of things that I do really like about these rails. First off, they are very lightweight. However, you can tell that they're very sturdy. They're made of a metal material with a black powder coat finish on them so they're not gonna rust at all or they're gonna resist rusting over time. They're gonna last a long time from the quality of these being Mopar. They also come with a little rubber gasket right here. So when you put this clamp over and this part in the rail, the bottom part of this rail has rubber on it. So it's not going to damage your hard tops paint and the same thing goes for this. It's not going to scrape this metal on your hardtop here and take up any of that paint. So you can just go around and tighten everything down making sure that everything is seated correctly. I also like how you can adjust this outward. You can do fine-tune adjustments to really how you want it to fit and it's very easily adjustable on the go. All you need is this Allen key and you can move it back and forth if you want a whole different cargo with it. So that is a great feature. It also has that rubber material on top in the middle. So this is gonna be good for items to not slip while they are on here and just give a little bit of extra cushion. So like I mentioned, on the front rail, you wanna make sure you're about seven inches back on a four-door and about five inches back on the two-door. And you just wanna make sure that you don't mount up this front one on your T-top since they are removable. So after that, you just wanna test it make sure it's in place and then we can throw our covers back on. You can just take that same flat-head screwdriver and turn that back in place and that cleans up the look of the rail. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install in the Mopar removable roof rack fitting all 2018 JLs with a hardtop. For more videos like this, keep it right here at

        Jeep Rack

The top rack are nice fitting for my Jeep JL. We purchased a basket thinking that it was complete with the ability to secure it to the top. We only purchased a basket, so we purchased the rack to be able to use the basket for our trips.

I purchased these to carry my kayaks on a road trip. They worked great and were easy to install. I watched the video first which was very helpful. They are a little noisy when you’re driving on the highway but that’s to be expected. other than that they’re perfect!

        4 2018 Wrangler - IanS

The part got here in 3 days coast to coast. Perfect fit. Lost a star because in the mounting instructions it specifies not to attach the front bar to the "removable panels" which are the front panels the the bar is attached to in the picture. You have to mount them 5in back from the seam and 30 in apart on the 2 door (7in for the 4 door 34.5in apart)

        5 2018 Rubicon - SurlyOgre

This is my first Mopar product, but not my last. Quality built product that is easy to install and looks great. No noticeable noise when driven on freeway. I bought this to transport snow skis, but haven’t yet. I do wish the weight rating was higher than it is, but this is going to work great for what I need it for.

        Mopar Roof Rack

If you want a simple, easy to install roof rack and don’t carry heavy loads this is a good option. It’s about a 20 minute install. There is some well-reported whistling at about 50 mph but apparently the fix is to put a good strength tape over the slots on the underside. Haven’t tried it but sounds about right.

Removable Roof Rack with Sky One Touch Power Roof

This rack seems to be nice quality but it did not fit my new jeep with the Sky One Touch Power roof. The bracket that is supposed to secure the rack to the drip rail would not fit so the screws could be secured. I had to return the rack. I would still be interested in having a rack if the problem is resolved.

        Mopar Disappointment

My 2018 Jeep Sahara JL cost $45,000 and the Mopar Jeep Roof Rack is only rated for about 70 pounds!! Installation tooled several hours. The pictures are deceiving, because if your jeep has removable roof panels, the forward most rail must be installed behind the roof panel. Kayak's and canoes are not recommended to be carried on these rails, even though IMHO this is what most Jeep owners would desire to carry. The rail attachment is so flimsy that you would not trust it to support more than 70 pounds.

      5 Top Rated Questions

      What is the weight limit?

      • The weight limit of this roof rack comes down to the weight limit of the hard top itself, as this installed directly to the hard top drop rail. In the case of the stock hard top, that would be 150lbs.

Can you use this for skis and snowboards? What attachment would I need for skis and snowboard?

      • While you should be able to mount skis or a snowboard on this rack we are unaware as to what sort of attachment or modifications this would require.

In the video the front bar is placed 6" from the start of the second panel. Is it also possible to mount on the front removable panel? It the rain gutter just as strong on removable pieces?

      • You can mount this on the Freedom panels as long as they are mounted down.

What paddle board are you using that weighs more than 150lbs? Is the caution about wind resistance of the boards? I’m not understanding the warning in the video that states “due to weight limitations of hard top it self it is not recommended to put kayaks or paddle boards”

      • Yes, due to the wind resistance when a paddle board or kayak is installed on top of the Mopar Removable Roof Rack it can cause the rack to either break the rain gutter off the hard top or just to break free from the hard top itself.

Do you have to drill anything into your roof? Is it fully removable?

      • This does not require any drilling in order to be installed.
