      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. So today, I'm here with the Mopar Rear Molded Splash Guards, fitting all 2018 JL Wranglers, excluding the Rubicon models. So protecting the body and protecting the paint on your new JL is probably high on your priority list. I know it would be on mine. So getting some molded splash guards like these is gonna be a perfect option to do just that. So these are gonna do a great job at protecting the body of your Wrangler from any kick-up from dirt and debris, any snow or mud kicking up, and it's gonna protect everybody driving behind you. So all your Jeep buddies following you on the trail are not getting the rocks that your self-cleaning tires are kicking up. So I would not recommend these to the avid rock crawler, just because these do hang a little bit lower. So if you're concerned about departure angles, this may be an issue. But if you're looking to do any lighter crawling, any fire trails, or even the daily driver, these are gonna be a perfect solution. So at the moment, these are gonna be roughly $50 on the page right now. And for a Mopar part, I think that is very fairly priced considering with Mopar, you do have to pay a little bit of a premium. So the lesser expensive options are not gonna be as structured as this. They will be for universal mud flaps made of a flappy rubber material. So if you're looking for something to actually catch the mud, snow, dirt, whatever you're looking to protect your body of your Wrangler from, these are gonna be a great option and look very good doing so. These are gonna be made of the same material your rear bumper is right out of the factory, so these are gonna do a great job at matching your trim. So then, on the other hand, those more expensive options will have all of the bells and whistles. Right? So they will be bolted up to the frame. They'll be removable. They will be a lot more heavy-duty than this plastic guard. So if you're not looking for all of that, if you're just looking for an affordable option that matches your trim, then these are gonna be a great choice. Not to mention, these do have a two-year limited warranty to keep the peace of mind in your investment. So install is gonna be a pretty easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You will need a couple of hand tools, as well as a rivet tool since these do come with rivets to be installed on your rear bumper. So speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install today were an impact wrench, a drill with a 1/4-inch drill bit, a 22-millimeter deep socket, a center punch, a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, an 8-millimeter socket, and a rivet tool. So the first step to installing our mud flaps is to take off our rear wheels. So what I'm gonna do is take a floor jack, chock the front wheels, and lift up our Wrangler on the differential. Now, I only want the wheels to come off the ground just a hair, just so we can get them off. So now, we can take off our wheel with a 22-millimeter deep socket. So our next step is to take an 8-millimeter socket and remove this bolt right here. So our next step is to mount up our mud flap with the factory hardware that we just removed. However, when I did try to do that, I noticed that the factory bolt that we just took out is a little bit too short. So there's a couple of options or ways to go about this. So what I'm gonna do is remove an 8-millimeter screw that's actually in our front fender liner that's the same pitch, and install that on our rear since we are adding another piece of plastic and it is going to have a spacer on the back here. So this is just gonna give us enough thread to mount this up and get everything fitting properly. So what you can also do is remove this trim piece where we removed this bolt. That just removes another piece of plastic that we have to sandwich together in order to get this bolt threaded in. So what you can also do is flip the retaining clip that this threads into the other way, and that will extend the threads and give you a little bit more room to work with. However, I find this the easiest way because this rear bolt will actually bolt into the front fender liner perfectly, and you won't have to remove this and mess around with the trim piece. All you have to do is unscrew and screw in one bolt. So what we're gonna do now is take our longer screw from the front and mount up our mud flap. So you can see here that there is an outline. These are molded to fit the JL rear bumper exactly. It's made of the same material. It's a black or grey textured material. I do like how this looks. It looks like it's supposed to be there out of the factory. You get the little Jeep symbol on the bottom, which is really nice. And this does fit very well, once we get it on. So now, we can install our mud flap with that longer bolt, making sure that everything lines up. So once that's threaded in, we can tighten that down with our 8-millimeter socket. Now, we can get ready to mark and drill our holes for our rivets. So now, I'm gonna take a center punch and punch three holes where we are going to drill. Now, I'm gonna take a 1/4-inch drill bit and drill out those holes. So for this next step, you will need a rivet tool. Now, if you don't already have one, you can go to your local auto part store and most likely rent one. So we're gonna start with the rivet tool open like this, insert our rivet, and once we get to our hole, we will be able to clamp that down and it will create a rivet just how you have in your fender. So once those rivets are in, we can repeat the process on the other side. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. For more videos like this, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
