      Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from and this is my review and installation of the Mopar 4-way flat trailer hitch wiring harness fitting all 2007 and up JKs. Today we're going to talk through the installation of this wiring harness which is a very simple one out of three wrench installation, very easy to install in under a half an hour. If you bought your JK without a tow rated hitch on it but have since added one, of course you're going to need a wiring harness as well if you're going to be towing a trailer with lights on it. This is going to be a really nice wiring harness, however there are also some other wiring harnesses that aren't made by Mopar that are going to be less expensive simply because they don't come out of a Mopar box. If you're somebody who really likes all of your add on parts to be Mopar, you like everything to be of the same brand, and you're willing to pay a little bit more money, this is going to work just fine for you. However, if you're not interested in the brand name, if you just want something that works and you want something that's a little bit less expensive, there are some other versions out there such as the Rugged Ridge version of this plug and play wiring harness. Chances are your JK is not going to be a dedicated tow rig, so you're not going to be pulling anything that has trailer brakes, auxiliary or reverse lights built into it, so a traditional four panel wiring harness like this is going to be just fine. You're going to have your tail, your turn and your stop as well as your ground going to your trailer, and it's just going to work. As far as the installation goes, this is a one out of three wrench install that shouldn't take you more than a half hour to complete. All you'll need to do is remove the two inner screws from your driver's side tail light, pulling the tail light away from the body and unplugging it. You'll plug one end of your trailer wiring harness into the harness side, the other end into the light side, and tuck the rest of this wire down on the inside corner of your tub. Then, you can replace your tail light using those factory screws. From the bottom side you'll grab the rest of your wiring harness, run it along your frame underneath the frame rail, and clip it into or at least near your receiver hitch, and you're finished. Other than that screwdriver, you're not going to need any specialty tools. This is a very easy install. This harness here comes in right around $45, and you can get some other brands that are very, very similar for right around $30. Again, you are going to pay a bit of a premium because this says Mopar on the box. If you like the fact that this is Mopar, if you want to stick everything with the same brand, and you're willing to spend a little bit more, there's nothing wrong with this harness. It's going to work just fine for you. If your Jeep didn't come with a tow rated receiver from the factory, you've since added one and you want to be able to move a small trailer with lights, you're going to need a wiring harness. Something like this is going to be very easy to install even if this one is a little bit more expensive than some of the other versions because it is Mopar. That's my review of the Mopar 4-way flat trailer hitch wiring harness fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at

1 2018 Wrangler - RobertA Installation Time: Weekend

        Poor installation instructions

This harness is a good quality product at a reasonable price. The instructions provided are terrible! There is no verbage whatsoever! Only very abstract, poorly drawn pictures! After installing the harness precisely like in the picture, I realized that several of my clamps were not lining up with mounting holes in my frame. By the time I figured out the proper routing, I had already destroyed half of the mounting clamps. What a mess! I wound up having to drive to several different auto parts stores to find new clamps!

        Trailer wiring.

Easy install, good quality, directions were pretty good. Just needed to zip tie at the muffler bracket and another to the trailer plug to hold it up out of the way so as not to get damaged on departure angles.

        Open towing wire harness

Once you figure out the instructions as to how to route the harness so the fasteners align with the holes in the frame, everything falls in place.
