It's Joe from ExtremeTerrain. In this video, we're going over the Tacoma MBRP Installer Series Single Exhaust System with a Turndown, fitting all '16 and newer 3.5-Liter Powered Tacomas. Now this is gonna be a great option for you if you're looking for a really budget-friendly kit that's gonna give you plenty of volume and clearance in the rear as well.So as you guys just heard, this is gonna be one of the louder kits that I've ever experienced on our Tacoma. I'm gonna give this a strong four out of five on our wake the neighbor scale. There's a couple of things that go into that being a turn down and we'll talk about that a little bit later but as far as tone goes this thing is packing a nice deep growl with a little bit of drone in the mid-range not too much when you're off-throttle though. This is right on the edge of being daily drivable, I would say, in terms of volume. This thing is pretty loud. If you'd like a quieter ride this is not gonna be for you but if you're the enthusiast you like to hear that 3.5 V6, this is a great option. This kit is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel. We got some larger diameter 3-inch piping factory, we're coming up from two and a half inches. We're gonna get this side-by-side with the factory kit in just a second and really point out the differences here just how much exhaust we're losing and how much thinner this straight-through muffler is then stacked. That muffler is where most of our sound is gonna be coming from, you can look right through this thing, it's only got a tiny bit of baffling in there but that is really where most of the noise is going to be coming from. Afterwards, we do have a turndown that's gonna go right into the factory hangers and it's gonna bend right before our axle tube. Now that makes this louder than the regular installer series. Number one, obviously this is gonna be a little bit closer to the cab. So that exhaust note coming out of the tip that is gonna be right behind you. And secondly, this is aimed at the ground and not straight out the back. So the sound waves they're gonna hit the ground and bounced back into the cab and that's really where you get that four out of five on the wake the neighbor scale. Now the next thing I want to talk about is what this is made out of, 16-gauge aluminized steel. That's gonna be basically your starter material when it comes to exhaust. This is not stainless, so this is not going to resist rust whatsoever. This is strong stuff, don't get me wrong, however, if you're in it for looks, aluminized steel is not the one to go with which makes this a perfect application for it. A turndown is gonna be underneath yourTacoma, you're never gonna see it, it's going to be structurally strong, however, not the prettiest. If you're looking for noise though this definitely packs a punch. Now if you did want to take this up a notch, like I said, there's always options MBRP's lineup is vast. If you wanted to go with a mid-grade 409-stainless you could look at the XP Series for that and the Pro Series for that high-end 304-grade stainless. This is gonna be way more budget-friendly than both of those, however. Now going through this kit, this has a lot of benefits to it if you're looking for sound. This kit is gonna be great for the off-roader as well, reason being is this turndown, being that it ends right before the axle tube, you don't have an exhaust tip out by the tailgate and that is gonna give you a little bit of clearance back. Usually, the exhaust tip is one of the first things to hit. If you're worried about departure angle, this is basically gonna cut that off. It's never gonna hit because basically it can't. This is right before the axle tube. Also, you get a little tiny bit of weight savings in there which is always good no matter what car you drive. That is marginal though, so that's neither here nor there. Now let's talk about the good stuff and a huge selling point for a kit like this one, it's gonna be the price. We're looking right around 250 bucks for this thing which frankly is insane pricing. It doesn't get much more budget-friendly than that when it comes to exhausts. If you're looking to turn the volume up to 11 and not spend a lot of money doing it, this is a great option and it even comes with a three-year warranty from MBRP.So let's talk about the install. Gonna be really really easy not too much heft we're dealing with here, this is a pretty light kit. However, out of the box, this is gonna be tuned for the long-wheelbase truck. You're gonna have to make some cuts if you have a short wheelbase truck like we do so have the saw ready. With that said, I'm gonna give this an easy two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It should take you at most two hours if you come with the right tools. So without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done.Tools I used for this install will include an impact, 14-millimeter socket, exhaust hanger removal tool, pry bar and if you're working with a short bed like us you will need to make a cut, for that, you'll need tape measure, sharpie, some safety glasses' Last but not least, some penetrant like PB B'laster will help you a lot. One thing not pictured in this shot will be the saw we use to make our cut.All right. So underneath of our Tacoma, the first tool we're gonna need, impact gun and a 14-millimeter socket. We're gonna remove these two bolts on our flange here. Just a word of caution, it might be a little bit tight. Ours have been removed plenty of time so they come right out, yours probably aren't gonna act the same way. A good healthy dose of rust penetrant there maybe even a little bit of fire, a little bit of heat to loosen those up and then you can get them out of the way.So now the only thing holding up our exhausts are the rubber hangers. What we're gonna do is a little bit of clever work with the pry bar here, just gonna stick that in that crossmember and if you pry back that'll pop right off. And we can actually leave that on the one on the truck because obviously we're gonna reuse these later. There's three more of those hangers. We're going to get them all removed and then this the exhaust will come right off.Now if you do have one of these, all the better. This is an exhaust hanger removal tool, this makes these really really easy. And the very last one is gonna be right by your spare tire. Now that hanger is gonna be the last one, you want to make sure your exhaust is supported and then if you have enough height underneath your truck you can pull it out in one big piece. If not, you might have to make a cut or two. So now that we have our factory cat-back removed I figure now will be the perfect time to put it down next to our new MBRP kit and point out some similarities as well as differences between these two exhausts. Now a big difference between these two, our MBRP is gonna be aluminized steel, our factory kit is gonna be 409-grade stainless. Aluminized steel gonna be structurally sound, it's not gonna last as long but let's be honest hey not that big of a deal since this is a turndown, you're never gonna see it. Now let's dive into some differences. Now the big one here is gonna be just how much heft is cut out of this factory kit with the MBRP turned out. It's a lot shorter as you can see right here and it's gonna be even more short because this is made for the long bed, we're gonna have to trim that inlet pipe in just a second. Now a lot of that is coming out of the muffler as well, we're losing a lot out of this big restrictive factory muffler in exchange for MBRP straight through muffler, a huge upgrade. That's where most of that sound is gonna come from. The piping diameter, it's larger as well. Over here we have two and a half inch diameter piping, our new MBRP kit is gonna feature 3-inch diameter piping so that should free up some flow as well. All right. So with all that out of the way we can start to build-up that new MBRP kit on our Tacoma. Like I said earlier out of the box it's for a long bed, we're working with the short bed so we're gonna have to trim that inlet pipe. We're gonna break out the sharpie, tape measure, the saw and safety glasses, measure that and then trim it to size. So the measurement we're going to make for this inlet pipe, we're gonna start at the flange, we're gonna go 20 and 1/8th of an inch. Right there. And we're gonna make our mark and then we can make our cut.Now once you have that cut you might need to clean up the back edges a little bit, ours is looking pretty good so what we're gonna do we're just gonna put that onto our flange-like so and I'm just gonna get the factory hardware finger tight so this can rotate just a little bit in case we need adjustments later on we'll come back and tighten this down at the end. Also, one thing to note, you want to make sure that the bed in this pipe is going upward toward the cap.Now what we're gonna follow up with is our hanger clamp, this is the only one included in the kit and we're just gonna get that started right now. And we can follow that up with our muffler and I'm just gonna push that in and get it started in that clamp. Now the back of our muffler we're gonna do the same thing, we're gonna put a clamp up there and then follow that up with our turned down. Make sure the exhaust is aligned properly, everything is slid together correctly and then we can tighten down all the clamps and the flange with a 14-millimeter socket. That's gonna do it for my review and install of the MBRP Installer Series Single Exhaust System with a Turndown, fitting all '16 and newer 3.5-Liter Tacomas. Thank you guys so much for watching. Keep it right here at ExtremeTerrain for all things Tacoma.
