Merideth: If you're looking for an affordable yet functional front bumper to complement the front end of your 2018 or newer JL Wrangler, this Rock Rage Front Bumper in Textured Black will be a great addition to your build. Now, this will be great for the daily driver looking to up the style of their JL with a heavy-duty appearance, and the off-roader who needs to add some utility to the Jeep for their off-road adventures. Not to mention, this will do a great job with protection for the front end if you want a bumper that's a little bit sturdier and more capable than the factory plastics. This will feature two welded D-ring mounts on either side, for a solid recovery point in any sticky situation that you may get into. Now, speaking of sticky situations off-road, on top of this front bumper, this will have a standard winch plate for the added utility. Now, this will also include a bull bar for that added protection, and it does stick out a little bit farther than the front of the bumper, which I personally like. So, if you do come in contact with an obstacle, it's going to hit here and not necessarily on the face, keeping those obstacles away from your Wrangler. It's also gonna have light mounting options on the top of the bull bar for any accessory lighting, and, you're also getting fog light cutouts over on the side, so you can swap over your factory lighting. This will be made of a steel plate construction, being strong and able to take a hit, especially when off-road. Now, on top, you'll also see a nice, fine-textured black powder coat finish that's gonna protect the steel underneath from any rusting or corrosion. Now, additionally, this kit will be bolt-on and come with everything that you need right out of the box for a simple install.Like I mentioned before, this will be a super affordable front bumper, at roughly $350. Now, what I like most about this bumper is that it brings a lot to the table, yet is still pretty simplistic, and has a no-frill design when it comes to the actual build. Now, other options available on the site may come with some extra bells and whistles than what you see here, like included lighting, more coverage compared to this mid-width design, or a skid plate included in the kit. Now, I think if you want the function, the style, and protection, while keeping it on a budget, this is a great bumper to choose. Install will be a 1 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about two hours to get the job done with some basic hand tools. Now, at this point, we can head over to the shop and check out a detailed breakdown of the install and what that looks like step-by-step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and jump into it.Man 1: Tools used for this install, a 3/8 electric ratchet, a clip removal tool, 7-millimeter wrench, 7, 8, and 13-millimeter sockets, a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter, quarter-inch drive extension, 16, 18, and 19-millimeter sockets, quarter-inch drive ratchet, 3/8-drive ratchet, half-inch drive ratchet, and a flat blade screwdriver.Hey, guys. I'm gonna show you how to install our front bumper here on our 2018 Wrangler. But first, we're gonna watch a quick uninstall video of how to remove our stock bumper, and then we'll jump right back into the install.Man 2: So, to begin this installation, we're gonna need to remove our factory bumper. We're gonna begin with the air dam underneath. There's a series of pop clips that we'll have to use a screwdriver or a trim panel removal tool, and there's two screws that we're gonna use an 8-millimeter socket for.All right. So, we have eight of these push pins, all the way across the bottom. We're gonna just take and pop the center out, and that's gonna release that clip. So, once you get the last screw out of the bottom, you're ready to pull the whole shield off.So next, we're gonna take off this metal shield, using a 16-millimeter socket. You're gonna have one bolt on either side. After you get those bolts off, you can lift this up, and it'll slide right off. So next, we're gonna unplug our fog light harness. It's located here on the passenger side frame rail. We're just gonna press this tab in, and then we can disconnect our plug. So, after we have our fog light harness unplugged, you're ready to remove the four nuts on both ends of the frame rail. We're gonna use an 18-millimeter socket to do this. So, the last thing to disconnect before we pull our bumper off, there's gonna be two push pins, one on either side on the top of the frame rail. We need to pop those out with a screwdriver, and then we can pull our bumper off. With everything disconnected, you can remove your stock bumper.Man 1: So, now that we have our stock bumper off, what I'm gonna do is show you how to remove our fog lights here, because we're gonna be installing them into our new bumper. We're also gonna have to remove our metal bracket here, and take these two pieces of the bumper apart to get our wiring harness out, that we're gonna be reusing when we install our fog lights into our new bumper. So, the first thing we're gonna do is I unplugged our fog light. We're gonna get it out of the way. I'm gonna take a 7-millimeter on my electric ratchet here. We're gonna remove these four bolts, and pull our fog light out.Now we're gonna be able to lift our fog light out, just like that. And now you're gonna wanna repeat that same procedure on the opposite side. So next, what we're gonna do now that we got our lights removed, we're gonna take out this big metal brace here. And to do that, we've got two clips right here, one here, one here, that's holding our wiring harnesses in. And then we have eight 13-millimeters right here that we're gonna remove, then we'll lift this out of the way.So, I'm gonna take my clip removal tool, pop out this clip here. I'm gonna come on this side here, do the same, pop that one out, and get that out of the way. And then I'm gonna take a 13-millimeter on my ratchet again, break these loose. And now that we have all those out, gonna be able to just lift this up and out of the way.So next, since we got our metal bracket out here, we're gonna take out our hooks here, that have our bumper bracket bolts in them, and we'll just remove them and get those out of the way. So now, to remove our harness from underneath here, what you're gonna have to do is take out these 7-millimeters. There's a bunch of them. You have some here, all the way along the top. Back here. Same on that side, all the way along, inside. We're gonna have to remove that, so that we can pull this piece here out of the bumper, pop the clips out, and then remove our harness. So, I'm gonna take my 7-millimeter, I'm gonna start here, work my way over. Now, some of our holes here are missing screws. Yours probably has them. This has been off a couple times. So, I'll start here. So, now that we have all our screws out, I'm just gonna lift up and remove this piece from the actual bumper cover. So, now that we have our piece here, our inner structure from our bumper cover, what I'm gonna do is just pull our harness up through the ends. Once I get it pulled up, I'm gonna take my clip removal tool, get underneath here, pop up plastic clips that hold the harness in place. And now that we have those all removed, except for this one here... [inaudible 00:12:00] So, now we have them all removed. I'm gonna take our harness, lay it up there, remove this cover now. And now we'll be able to start installing our fog lights into our new bumper. So, now that we have our fog light and our wiring harnesses out of our old bumper, we're gonna start by installing them in this bumper, running the harness. And then we'll be ready to install our bumper onto our vehicle. So, I'm gonna take our fog light. We're gonna install it into our socket here, just like that. We're gonna take our 7-millimeters, with a flat washer that they supply in the kit, stick that in place, another flat washer on the backside, and take our nut, and get that behind and start that. Do the same on this side. Another flat washer, and our nut here. It's a little locking nut. Now, once we have them started, gonna take my 7-millimeter socket, on my gun, with a 7-millimeter wrench. I'm gonna get behind here and hold it. Gonna tighten this up. And now, you don't wanna go too tight, because it is plastic and you don't wanna break it. So, we'll get on this side. Do the same thing. And now that we have those both tight, you wanna repeat that same procedure on the opposite side. So, now what I'm gonna do is fish our wiring harness through our bumper here, and plug this in here. We're gonna make sure we keep it out of the way here, because we're gonna be bolting this up to our brackets on our truck there. And we'll do same over here. We're gonna plug this one in. Now, once we get this over there, and we get it up in place, you're gonna be able to wire-tie this up out of the way. We'll keep this wire-tied up. They have some openings here to mount a winch. So, you'll be able to get this tied up and do that. Now, on our vehicle, since we'll be removing this, I'm not gonna wire-tie this, but on yours, you're gonna wanna wire-tie this and keep this up out of the way.So now, we got our bumper ready to install. I'm actually gonna lift it up myself, get it in place, get it on the studs here, put nuts on, get it started, and then I'll show you how it bolts up. So, what you're gonna wanna do is lift this thing up. I'm gonna bend down, use my knees and my legs to pick it up. And I'm gonna lift with my legs. And I'm gonna line it up, till I feel it slide on. And now, what we'll do is we'll get underneath. We'll install our nuts, and washers, and get this thing tightened up.So, now I have one nut on each side holding this thing in. We're gonna put the rest of them in. You have one more up here. It's a flat washer, a lock washer, and nut. We'll get that one started. And again, got one little flat washer, lock washer and nut on this side. And then up top, they give you a 19-millimeter bolt with a lock washer and flat washer. So, now that we have all them in, I'm gonna take my 19-millimeter on my 3/8 ratchet here, tighten these up. Same with the top one. And then we'll do the same on this side over here. And then the top bolt.Okay. Now we have all four tight. Now what we're gonna do is we're going to take our connector right here, and our light connector, and we're gonna connect these two together for our fog lights. So, now we're gonna plug this in. And again, you're gonna wanna tie your wiring harness up, and do that. Now you're gonna just wanna repeat this whole install procedure on the opposite side. That wraps up this review and install of our Rock Rage Front Bumper, Textured Black, for '18 to '22 Jeep Wrangler JLs.
