Does this come with the midpipe that attached to the manifold.. I have tried to cross reference this part eleseware and it only comes up for Cherokee applications.. will this fit my 99 wrangler tj sport 4.0 inline 6

BryanS

  • Thank you for your question! This will fit the 99 4.0L TJ, but this is a direct catalytic converter replacement and does not come with the mid-pipe.

Do I need to purchase an o2 sensor with this product?

MistiH

  • Hi! You do not need an O2 sensor when purchasing the Flowmaster Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter. You would reuse your stock O2 sensor.

do you know why this is only for the 97-98 model year? the 97-2000 model year 2.5L have the same part number on the individual parts. is there a similar product for the 99 tj with a 2.5L?

ErikD

  • The Flowmaster Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter is not designed for the 1999+ Wranglers. Since this is CARB compliant, it may be related to the CARB approval, or there may be a minor design difference Flowmaster made that does not allow fitment on 1999 and newer Wranglers. This has not been tested on a 1999+ by ExtremeTerrain.

I am wanting to replace my exhaust from the header back. Does this piece run from the stock header to where a cat-back system would begin?

Alex

  • The Flowmaster Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter will attach to the header flange and run back to where the catback installs.

    Good replacement and upgrade

I am fixing up a 2006 LJ and the stock exhaust is one piece from header all the way back to muffler. The rear cat is part of that long pipe. This part is a great replacement, especially if you have one piece stock. Now you can get in and work on the transfer case or replace the muffler, without having to go all the way up to the header. Also, this is slightly longer than some other cat replacements, so that helps with the amount you get to cut off. Measure first, and leave yourself enough to possibly trim again. I cut too close and had to run to auto parts store for a 2 inch filler piece. It looks nice once you get it on there and greatly simplifies a new muffler or just working under the skid plate area. I replaced the muffler (after cutting that off at the joint as well) so I am not sure how the sound is changed just by this. Overall it does seem to run smoother now.

    Nice replacement part

I would give this part a higher rating but the down pipe flange s to think and will not fit with the bolt already in the exhaust manifold. It does come with longer bolts but they are impossible to replace without removing the manifold from the vehicle.

    Quick and easy installation

The Flowmaster Cat. Converter was a great buy at Extreme terrain. Had a quick and easy install and sounds great. You'll love it, combined with a flowmaster muffler my 4 cylinder sound's like a 6 cylinder. Performance was much improved over my last, and cheaper also.

    worked as adverttised.

I bought this converter to replace a Magnaflow unit that fell apart. The install was quick and simple. the only reason I spent an afternoon on it was that I took the time to clean and paint the frame components while I was under there.

Review from Flowmaster Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter (97-98 2.5L Wrangler TJ)

    Better then OEM

Good quality and materials. The exhaust manifold clamp is thicker then OEM, so the exhaust manifold studs are too short to bolt up. So will have to replace the studs. The clamp is steel plate versus the stamped OEM clamp design, so it seems to provide a better, tighter seal. Everything else was a direct drop in replacement. A good plus is that it comes in two parts, as this made it easier to install without extra help. There is no difference in exhaust volume or note. My Jeep is a 99 TJ and this was the correct product for my application. So some early production must still use the 98 design.

    Bad Fit

I had this part put on at a muffler shop. The tech told me that the part did not fit right. The piece which had the catalytic converter on it was to short. The piece which came off the exhaust manifold needed to be modified some.

    Fittment problem

Nice cat, quality product, but not all there. The original cat has a mounting arm/hanger on it. The hanger acts as a support for the exhaust system. I had to cut the old one off and weld it on to the new one.....Giant pain in the $#

    Not what I would expect

Opened up when it arrived all looked good until I went to put it together. The cat pipe and the exhaust pipe would not go together. I had to take it to a exhaust shop and have the bell on the cat pipe enlarged to fit the exhaust pipe. Not what I'd expect from flowmaster. So to sum it up what should have been a breeze to assemble in my book was a genuine paint in the but.

Review from Flowmaster Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter (97-98 2.5L Wrangler TJ)

Not a day job for ALL setups.

Be prepared that there will, as with all Jeeps, be some hiccups. Once i stopped cursing at the previous owners botch job, the parts all assembled with relative ease. And, i do love most Flowmaster products for the ease of install. This is one exception, being a heavy duty part for a lifetime of use.... the flange clamp to attach the down pipe to the exhaust manifold is THICK by comparison to the stock. The piping itself is also thicker. Thus the quandary, the stock manifold bolts are 1/2" too short at least. Be prepared for it.
