    Review & Install Video

This Dirty Dog 4x4 three-piece netting kit is for those of you that have a 2007 and up four-door JK and are interested in adding some cargo netting to keep gear, pets inside your Jeep and also give your Jeep a little bit more of that safari look. These are going to be a functional piece if, like I said, you have a pet in the back seat or you have a bunch of cargo that you don't want flying around, moving around whether you're on the street or on the trail. Now, this netting is going to be one of the best-built options out there, in my opinion. I've seen quite a few of these. These are very, very solid if you are gonna be running netting year round because this will work underneath of your hard top or your soft top, you want something that's gonna last for a long time, you have a higher budget, this is going to be that way to go. If you're somebody who's just looking for a shorter term solution, has a lower budget, isn't as interested in something that's as high of a quality, you have those other options out there as well, but this one's going to be very, very well-built.Now Dirty Dog 4x4 does make two different versions of these three piece-netting kits. One is going their spider web style, which is what we have here, where the side windows all emanate from one location, giving you a bit of a curved or spider web look. And again, that's going to be on the side pieces of the Jeep. There's also a straight cargo netting that's just going to be vertical 90 degrees squares as well, if you're more interested in that style, you do have a couple of choices. Like I said, very, very high-quality webbing here. This is going to be polypropylene webbing, it's going to be both stitched and riveted at every intersection, ensuring that this stuff is going to be very solid, very well-built, and lasts a very, very long time. This is going to come with all of the clips and straps and hardware that are necessary to get it installed in your Jeep, as well as this tailgate bar here which is a really nice feature, in my opinion. If you don't use this, there really isn't anything to keep the bottom section of the rear net held in place. You can just let it flap around, but I think that this makes a much cleaner install, and the only thing that you may have to add, if you have a hard top on your JK and you don't have soft tops hardware at all, we'd be adding some factory style rear tailgate bar clips onto your Jeep in order to hold this tailgate bar, but that's the only thing you are gonna have to add, everything else comes with this kit. This install's a very simple one out of three wrenches. You're not gonna have to drill or cut anything. The first time you install this, it may take a little bit more time than every time after that because there are a few more pieces to attach, but once you install this once, you can leave those nut and bolt pieces installed on the Jeep all the time. If you did wanna remove this, just undo all the clips making it a lot easier. Now the first step is to install this back piece, and you start by installing the pieces that go onto the sides of the sport cage working your way from the top down to the bottom. You'll go ahead and install your tailgate bar as well once you get to the bottom, and there are a couple of pieces that do get nut and bolted attached to your Jeep as I said before. These are going to use all factory locations, there's already nuts and bolts there, you don't have to drill anything. A couple are going to be across of the top of the tub where your hard top will get bolted onto, and a couple are going to be into the seat hardware, but again, just follow the instructions, it's very, very simple. After you have the rear section installed, you can go ahead and move onto the side sections. Again, following the same procedure using all the hardware, all the straps, all the buckles that come included in this kit to get everything installed, and then just pull it tight and you're done. This 3-piece webbing kit is going to be $350. There are some five-piece kits from Dirty Dog that of course are gonna be more expensive, they include more pieces. And there are going to be less expensive cargo netting pieces on the market. However, they are not going to be this quality. So, again, if you're looking for something high quality, you want it to last a long time, you're gonna be running it for a long period of time, you want something that your dogs aren't going to easily be able to push through and chew through, this is the product for you. It is gonna be a little bit more expensive than others, but you are getting something for the additional money. This is very, very high quality. So if you're looking for some of the highest quality cargo netting out there, I definitely recommend the Dirty Dog 4x4 cargo netting, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Make Your Jeep Unique. The rear of your Jeep is probably open and when you take your cargo with you, you have to drive even more carefully than you would any other time. Your items will be protected in the rear cargo area of your Jeep and you will have nothing to worry about.

Symmetrical Look. Will this fit with Trektop NX?

    • This rear cargo netting will work with the Trektop NX with the quarter window attachment and bottom of the rear netting released when the quarter window and rear window installed. With the rear windows removed you can have it fully installed.

I think this question has been answered but I'm not entirely understanding (I'm a brand new Jeep owner). Unlike the posted pictures, if I leave the soft top folded at the base of my Jeep, will this cargo net still be compatible and safe for my dog to stay in the back? I'm assuming the cargo net would just sit under the folded soft top.

    JessicaM

    • The tailgate bar are the bottom of the net in the rear would have to hang in the back with the soft top folded back. If you remove the soft top you will be able to secure the tailgate bar in the rear. You would be able to leave the cargo net up under the soft top when you have it up.

I have a cheaper cargo net on my jk, and the buckles keep snapping. I live in HI, so the top is off all the time, and the sun weakens the plastic, so my question is, are the buckles and snaps made of plastic on this or are they a metal material that will not soften and break down in constant sun?

    • The Dirty Dog 4x4 Rear Spider Netting would be made with plastic buckles and snaps.

      Pain in the azz

The only complaint is the instructions were minimal and the pictures were for a 2 door. Maybe cuz I wasn't drinking it seemed like it took forever to install. Had to buy a velcro roll from Home Depot to tighten everything down. Drove it on the freeway and found which areas needed tightening. It was flapping and very annoying. Overall good quality looks really good. I was able to fit the hard top over the whole netting without taking it off. For the price they really should include the retainer brackets.

Review from Dirty Dog 4x4 Rear Spider Netting - Black (07-18 Wrangler JK 2 Door)

Cool, but throw away the instructions!

This is for the 2-door spider net sides and back. Great idea, and it looks good when you are done, but it is a horrible puzzle to figure out! The instructions have NOT one view of a completed top or side with any quality. The instructions appear to be for a 4 door, and most of the videos are as well (as well as being very old). After about an hour of figuring out where to start, and watching a bunch of videos of tops SIMILAR, but not the same as mine, I just started putting it together. I have some extra parts and straps, and there are some buckles that are not used (?) but it looks ok. Feels like they could improve the design so that it fit better, the front top of sides there is no way to pull the ring forward, only up. As well the lower sides front do not attach to anything in a 2wd setup. Had to use spare 8" straps with the rings and improvise. May be that they mixed up the kit or something.. Anyway, I know how to do it now, but it was painful!

      Excellent Dog Cage

I searched hard for a netting product to contain my 75# German German Shepherd, and finally settled on this product for several reasons. It was real cargo netting, not just a plastic/vinyl look alike. The spider web looking side netting was also a more unique look. I ultimately made my final decision on the space between the back door and the edge of the netting, where I anticipated my dog would jump out at the sight of an errant squirrel. The spider netting is actually anchored to the back of the door lock catch, which was pretty smart. The catch has two threaded screws holding it to the door frame, and the netting is anchored with a nut on those threaded screws. This minimizes the space between the door frame and the edge of the netting, with the best chance of keeping my dog in. And it looks cool too. My only complaint is that the instructions are very inadequate. The 45 minute estimate turned out to be 3 hours of install wrong, uninstall, reinstall better, sunburn. If you have done this before it is probably a piece of cake. Newsflash: I have not done it before. It is worth it in the end.

Netting was everything I hoped it be. Directions weren't very clear but common sense helped getting it on. Keeps my dog and belongings safe. Only complaint is I wish there was clips all the way up so you could take top part off if you have tall people in back sitting.

Looks Good and built to last.

I really like this netting. Looks good and keeps stuff from sailing out the back of my Jeep. Works with my soft top in both up or down positions. I get tons of comments. The installation took time to figure out but once I got the idea of where everything went I had no problems. I recommend you watch the installation video on YouTube. I made a couple adjustments and added black wire ties to secure some loose ends. Very high quality netting.

      Love it!

I couldn't decide between this one and the safari straps. Glad I picked this one. I wanted something that was easy to undo and be able to let me dog jump in and then have the ability to easily secure it. This is great. When i installed it I made it tight, and when needing to put something in the back through the tailgate I can just undo the buckles, and then buckle it back up. (I probably use those buckles daily -- can't imagine there is anything easier out there) The spider sides also look great to give the 2door jk some angles. So happy with this purchase.

      Very satisfied

Good-looking, sturdy cargo netting, fits well. Good rearview visibility in spite of the stout straps. Hardtop owners need to remember to purchase tailgate retainer clips if they want to use the rigid bar at the bottom of the netting, but the bar is not absolutely necessary.
