How to Install Crown Automotive Tailgate Bar & Tonneau Cover Kit (87-06 Wrangler YJ & TJ) on your Jeep Wrangler

1. Ensure all components in the kit are accounted for. 

2. Slide the included tonneau cover out of the tailgate bar. 

3. Open the tailgate and unzip the rear window zippers. Unclip the rear window from the factory tailgate brackets, and remove the tailgate bar from the tailgate brackets. The rear window and tailgate bar should only be mounted to the vehicle by the top of the rear window. 

4. Remove the factory left and right tailgate brackets, and mount the included tailgate brackets using the included Phillips Machine Screws, Flat Washers, Lock Washers, and Nylock Nuts. (See Figure 1) The inside edge of the brackets should be even with the end of the quarter panel. If the vehicle did not have tailgate brackets the holes the brackets can be used as templates to drill 3/16” holes. Paint any bare metal to prevent rust. 

5. Slide the rear window out of the factory tailgate bar and into the included tailgate bar. 

6. Install the supplied seal material onto the top of the tailgate. 

7. Slide the tonneau cover into the tailgate bar. Ensure the black denim side of the tonneau cover will face up when fully installed. 

8. Install the tailgate bar onto the left and right tailgate brackets and zip the rear window brackets. 

9. Close the tailgate and fold the rear seat down. Choose a spot on the inner fenders to mount the straps on the tonneau cover where there is no concealed wiring. The strap needs to have space to loosen or tighten if need be. Unsnap the buckles on the tonneau cover. Mount the straps to the inner fenders through the metal eyelets using the attached sheet metal screws. Snap the buckles to the tonneau cover and tighten or loosen to achieve desired tonneau cover tightness. 

NOTE: Any creases in the tonneau cover will flatten after a few days of being installed.
