Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Barricade Front Tubular Bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 Wranglers. This is available with our without the winch cutout, and in gloss black and textured black powder coating. These bumpers are for those of you who like that old school tubular bumper look and don't have the need for the additional protection or features offered from a plate steel, heavy duty off road bumper. Of course, these are going to be less expensive than some of those bumpers that offer more features and protection, but even amongst other tubular bumpers, these Barricade bumpers are really reasonably priced. This bumper is built from a three-inch tubular stainless steel, which means that even if you get a chip or a scratch in the powder coat, the stainless is going to help resist against corrosion and rust. You have your choice of either the gloss black powder coat that you see here or a textured black powder coat finish. I personally like the textured black finish because I think it matches the black plastic accents on the factory Jeep pretty well. Another decision to make when choosing one of these bumpers is whether you want it with our without this winch cutout. Even if you choose the bumper with the winch cutout, you're still going to need to get a winch plate with a fairlead mount in order to get a winch mounted on the Jeep. This bumper will give you clearance for a winch, but it does not provide a built-in winch plate. The bumper also doesn't provide any recovery points, any light mounts for either the factory fog lights or auxiliary light mount tabs, and it's not going to provide a lot of protection against off road obstacles. Getting this bumper installed on your Jeep is really easy and it's designed to be completely bolt on with the hardware and brackets that are included. The first step in the installation is to remove the splash shield from your Jeep, if you're still running one, and that will not be reinstalled with your new bumper. The next step is to remove your factory bumper by removing the eight nuts that are holding it into place. Once you have the factory bumper off, you can install the brackets that are included in your kit. This is another example of how this bumper is more of a styling mod than a functional one. Your new bumper uses four out of the eight mounting locations of the factory bumper. Once you have the brackets installed, you can slide the new bumper over the new brackets, which can be a little bit of a tight fit, and install the final four bolts holding the bumper to the new bracket. The whole installation should take about two hours, and you won't need any specialty tools, just some hand tools. However, having an extension and a universal handy is nice for getting rid of some of those factory nuts, because some can be tough to get to. If I base my assessment of the cost of this bumper on the quality of the build, I would say it's completely worth it. When you take a look at this bumper, the welds are nice, the finish is really high quality, and everything you need to get it installed on the Jeep is included in the box. So, if you don't have the need for the additional features and protection offered from a more expensive heavy duty off road bumper, and you like the old school look of a tubular bumper, I think this is a nice option. The build quality is there, the quality of the finish is there, and it includes everything you need to get it installed on your Jeep in an easy afternoon. So, that's my review of Barricade Front Tubular Bumper fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

I bought the KC HiLites 6 inch fog lights and plan to mount them on my Barricade tubular bumper w winch cut out. I would prefer splicing in to existing factory wiring for install instead of the wiring harness and switch provided. I've received conflicting info regarding this scenario. Please advise. Thanks.

David

  • Hello, when lights are provided with their own wiring harness, we do advise to go ahead and use the provided harness, that way you will know for sure that wires provided in that harness will be able to support the power output made by those lights.

I bought this bumper and I am looking a buying a Barricade Wench to put on it as well. Do I need to buy a winch plate and if so which one for 2015JK? Thanks

  • Hello, for the Barricade Front Tubular Bumper w/ Winch Cutout - Textured Black (07-17 Wrangler JK) you will need a Winch Plate, we recommend getting the Olympic 4x4 Products Front Bumper Winch Mount, Textured Black (07-17 Wrangler JK) which you can find here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/olympic-4x4-products-front-jk-507174.html and also the Teraflex RockGuard Explor Winch Mount (07-17 Wrangler JK) which you can find here: http://www.extremeterrain.com/teraflex-rockguard-explor-jk-4638420.html

Is there a way to mount a front license plate? I have a 2015 2 dr jk

Joe

  • This bumper does not include a front plate mount. However, there are several universal tube mount bracket available as well as a roller fair lead mount if you opt for a cable winch. Check out: http://www.extremeterrain.com/rugged-ridge-license-3-jk-tj-yj-115038.html

Installation is cake. Removing the plastic clips for the front skid plate was the worst. I also bought filler plates. You'll want them! I bought these on sale for $99. The finish is, "you get what you pay for". The first night I installed these, we had a light rain, the next morning, I noticed a few rust spots. No biggy, after it cools down here in Vegas, I'll remove them and paint them black. Durability... these are really only for cosmetics. I wouldn't trust a tow strap on it.

    Easy as could be

Product came wrapped in bubble wrap for protection, all the hardware was there. Took only about an hours time to uninstall factory bumper and to install this one. (took me longer to run to the auto parts store for an 18mm deep socket which was definitely needed). Looks great and is sturdy.

Not only was the bumper easy to install, it looks great, too. So much so that I purchased the matching rear bumber. Both make the appearance of my Jeep look great. They fit perfectly and all the parts were easily to identify.

Nice bumper for the price. Install was easy, took about 2 hours. End caps are welded, not cheap plastic caps.

Review from Barricade Front Tubular Bumper w/ Winch Cutout - Stainless Steel (07-17 Wrangler JK)

    Barricade Tubular Bumper

The metal is rather thin, so it's easily damaged. On the flip side, the lack of weight doesn't change the vehicles stance. The welds are nice as well. The mounting bracket is gloss black and the hardware is silver. The washers provided are so large that they hang a bit off of the edge of the bracket leaving a not so clean appearing finish. I'm a huge fan of the style, just wish it was beefier.

Review from Barricade Front Tubular Bumper w/ Winch Cutout - Stainless Steel (07-17 Wrangler JK)

Looks awesome and easy to install

I purchased this bumper and the corresponding rear tube bumper. Both are solidly built and ship well protected in boxes and wrap. I am not very mechanically inclined but I was able to easily install both bumpers in about an hour (after spending the better part of two hours getting the stock bumpers removed). Very pleased with the appearance and relative ease of installation.

Review from Barricade Front Tubular Bumper w/ Winch Cutout - Stainless Steel (07-17 Wrangler JK)

    Great look easy to install

This bumper was super easy to install, about 2 hrs as stated in the instructions. Just make sure you have a 19mm socket and wrench and rubber mallet to hold on. I bought the stainless steel one when the price was too good be true althouni really wanted black. Nothing a little plasti dip couldn't fix. Any way super easy to install and looks great, not sure what mount plate I need for my winch so that is the only downside, and the reason for the 1 less stars in appearance and overall rating. The opening for a winch looks bad without anything there. If anyone knows please let me know.

    Great Fit!

I installed this bumper by myself in about 30 minutes. It said it would be a tight fit, but not as tight as I was expecting. My Jeep looks great and I'm excited to put the winch on it!

    Cost efficient with good looks

A friend of mine recco'd this product to me. It probably took me 45 minutes to an hour to install. Since I've installed it, I've gotten a ton of compliments/feedback from random people. This is just the start to many add-ons out there.

Great Look for an Even Greater Price

The bumper gives a much more rugged look to my jeep than the factory stock bumper. Purchase came with all the hardware necessary to install. Easy to install with minimal basic tools. Takes about an hour to get stock bumper off and put the new one on. Fits perfectly with no modifications necessary. Very straightforward.
