    Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake, fitting all 2012 and up JKs with the 3.6 liter engine. There are two different versions of this kit available, one with the Synthamax Air Filter in either red or blue, and one with Airaid's Premium Air Filter. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this cold air intake, which I'm gonna give a two out of three wrenches because there is some cutting of the factory air box involved to get this installed. We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of this system. Any time you help your engine to breathe easier, either in or out, you are theoretically going to see some horsepower and torque gains. However, with a Jeep, most of those gains are going to be at the very top of the RPM range where we don't spend a ton of our time. So what I would expect from a cold air intake like this is a little better throttle response, some more noise from underneath the hood, and possibly a few miles per gallon increase. You may feel a little bit of a power increase, but again, that is going to be more at the top of the RPM range. I do like this system because it has a completely enclosed air box, and what that is designed to do is get the coldest, freshest air possible for an air box that's still going to be under the hood, where it's generally warmer than outside of the Jeep. This also does come with a couple of different choices for air filters, so, again, the Synthamax filter that has a little less cotton gauze in it and is designed to be a better filter, filtering out more particulate, or the slightly less expensive Premium Air Filter that does have a little bit of the cotton gauze in it. As far as pricing goes, for an enclosed air box cold air intake, this is right where I would expect it to be, and it's in line with some of the other brands that we have available. As you can see, this cold air intake comes in a couple of different pieces, and like I said, one of those is the fully-enclosed air box. And what an air box like this is designed to do, is draw the coldest possible air into the engine for a box that is still in the engine bay. And I say that because you're still going to be drawing air that's underneath the hood that has been warmed up from the engine giving off heat. The only way to get truly cold, fresh air into the engine would be a snorkel or something like a ram air setup that is available on the site. However, this is going to do a nice job of drawing colder air and getting more air into the engine than that factory system would. Aside from the enclosed box, you, of course, have your cold air intake tubing and filter. And as I mentioned before, there are a couple of filter choices available. The Synthamax filter from Airaid is a little more expensive than their Premium filter, and it has less cotton gauze in it, and it is designed to filter out even smaller particulate. But if you wanna save a little bit of money, or you're not as concerned about the filtration qualities, you can go with the Premium filter, still a great filter, just has a little bit more of the cotton gauze inside of it. This system is designed to be mostly bolt-in. You don't have to cut the Jeep, but you do have to cut up your factory air box, you're going to remove the factory air scoop and put it onto this air box. And part of the reason that you have to do that is because this is a 50-state legal system, so it can be used in California. So there are a couple more restrictions that need to be taken into account. As I said before, I am going to call this a two out of three wrench installation. Generally, a cold air intake, especially one that is not an enclosed air box like this one is, is a very, very simple install. This is going to be a little bit more difficult, and we're calling it a two outta three wrenches because of the cutting you have to do on your factory air box to remove that factory a

Enhanced Performance. The AIRAID MXP Cold Air Intake System replaces the standard air filter and the entire air path to the Jeep Wrangler JK's engine to improve the air flow and thereby the horsepower of the engine. With a molded airbox that isolates the air filter from the engine heat and strategically placed air inlets that allow cool air into the box, it ensures better combustion, fuel efficiency, lower exhaust gas temperature, and engine output.

Superior Filtration. Each Airaid Cold Air Intake provides superior air filtration, since it includes a Premium Filter with SynthaFlow technology. SynthaFlow® is a cotton gauze and non-woven synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze "performance" filters just can't capture. Airaid Premium Filters, with SynthaFlow® can capture particulates down to 2 microns in size. This filter is re-usable, which means there is no need to buy a filter every time its dirty. Simply wash and re-oil the filter and you're back in business.

Unique Air Box Design. This Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake features a specially designed one-piece roto-molded intake box that draws cooler outside air from the factory cold air duct while the unique shape improves airflow around the entire filter.

CARB Certified. Best of all, this Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-609-19.

Application. The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake is specifically designed for the 2012-2018 Wrangler JKs with the 3.6L Engine.

    • The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake SynthaMax Dry Filter (12-14 Wrangler JK w/ 3.6L) should accept a snorkel, however, may require modification to do so. As well, the box may not be watertight.

      Great Enclosed Intake

Much better intake than all of the open air “cold” air intakes available for the JK. Re-using the factory intake snorkel is a nice touch as well. Install is straight forward other than cutting the snorkel. Please take your time and make a straight cut as I did not, but I still had enough material that it fit in the air box adapter. Sound is noticeable to an extent. Not as loud as open air intakes. #1 complaint and foreseeable problem is that this intake requires you to flip around the factory air box breather line. Once you flip it the hardline is much smaller than the breather tube and is only held on by a QuickClip (as per the instructions).

Review from Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter (12-18 3.6L Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Very Nice

This air intake is great, looks good, sounds good and the Instructions where easy to read. Does take a little bit of patience but not much. The only issue I had was one of the nuts didn’t fit the screw intended for it. But overall very satisfied. Haven’t really notice a increase in MPG but have noticed a increase in power, especially on the highway and there is a noticeable growl from the intake when you get into the 2-3k rpms.

Review from Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter (12-18 3.6L Jeep Wrangler JK)

      Amazing!!!!

I just received this cold air intake. It took me about an hour to put in, it was very easy. I noticed an immediate gain of Power and around 3.5 to 4 miles gained per gallon. All you got to do is make one small cut in your factory intake tube with a hacksaw. Instructions were pretty easy to follow. Awesome intake!

Sounds great and felt better throttle response immediately Really took my time with the install so was over 2hours but fits great. The product has a lot of good features and thought like upgraded grommets and brackets for the radiator hose. Liked how the stock air intake was repurposed and used an oscillating saw to make a clean cut. Also if I remember right this has fifty state emissions.

      Great deal

For the price you get a decent cold air system. Only complaint is the limited chi he in filter colors which I understand blue and red are the only real choices from quality companies but a wider variety would be nice if you are trying to stick to a color scheme like I am

Put some rumble in my jeep

This product was easy to install, I invited a buddy over that has done a few of them. The fit is great except it adds a step to remove the fuse box lid. It defiantly adds a beastly sound when the jeep gets over 4,000 rpm's. The only problem is I stomp on the gas everywhere now. Would you rather breath threw a straw or normal? I'm sure my motor feels the same way.

      Factory Fit - Great Sound

Just installed the AIRAID last night. I was very pleased with the tolerances of how the whole system fit. It has a factory fit and a great sound. While pulling a trailer and going up a hill I could hear the air being sucked in when my jeep hit 4000 rpm. I liked the sound but not sure I noticed too much of a performance upgrade but I am sure there is one. I figured this filter will pay for itself over the next couple years so I went ahead and bought it. You do have to cut the air intake off your stock jeep which takes the longest time. I used a dremel with a plastic cutter blade. I would cut it to 2.75 inches and not the 3 inches in the work instruction. The work instruction was great though with arrows and numbers.
