RedRock Extreme Sport Grab Handles (Universal; Some Adaptation May Be Required)
Hi, guys. So, today, we're checking out the RedRock 4x4 Open Wide Grille, fitting all 2007 to 2018 JK Wranglers. So, this grille by RedRock is going to be one of your most affordable and easiest solutions to completely switching up the look of the front end of your Jeep. Now, as you can tell, this is going to have a very aggressive and dynamic look to it. We have this aggressive brow up top, which is perfect for you guys out there that are a fan of that angry eye look, and this is also going to have these sharp teeth printed right in the middle on that mesh grille, which will again just enhance the aggressive styling out of this grille. Now, what I do like about this is not only is it going to add a lot of styling to the front end of the Jeep, but it is also going to be functional. Now, this grille will open up a lot of space that will allow a lot of air to get inside to your radiator, to your AC condenser. So, if you do live in a hotter climate or you're constantly in your Jeep, whether you're driving on the road daily driving, or you're going off-roading, this is going to allow some better air flow to keep your temperatures down in your Wrangler and help it run a little bit more efficiently. Not to mention it's also going to provide some extra protection to all of those components behind your grille, which is very important. With that being said, this will stick right around the $150 price point, which is a little bit more affordable than some other options available on the page. Now, when it comes to grilles, it really comes down to your personal preference in styling. I particularly like the fact that the grille itself is kind of simplistic and you get this design down at the bottom in comparison to some that do have a little bit more going on. So, if you are a fan of a grille that is a little bit more simple in the actual construction, this is definitely a great choice. Now, some other options may include a little bit more as far as the grille is concerned. They may include some marker lights, or they may also include an LED light bar, but those are going to be a little bit more expensive. And then, on the other hand, some of the less expensive choices, again, are going to be pretty simple. They may not include this print on the front, or they may be for grille inserts. So, it kind of comes down to your personal preference. But if you are looking for something that's going to offer a custom look, something that is going to be functional, and, of course, going to add that aggressive look to the front end of your Jeep, then this is going to be a great choice. Now, as far as install is concerned, I'm going to give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This is incredibly easy to install. It won't take you any longer than an hour to get the job done with some very basic hand tools. So, speaking of that install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were a pop clip removal tool or a panel removal tool and a flat-head screwdriver. So, the first step to taking off our grille is to remove the six pop clips up top. Now, I'm going to use a clip removal tool. You could also use a Flat-head screwdriver. I just recommend to be a little bit careful with a flat-head screwdriver so you don't mess up the paint, but we can go ahead and take those off so we can remove our grille. Now, we can disconnect our wiring harness for turn signals. So, we just have to push down on that clip and pull back. We can do the same thing on the other side. So, after everything is unplugged and the clips are out, what we can do is just give our grille a good tug backwards and it will come right out. So, as you can see, one of our retainer clips is still stuck in there. We do need to remove that to make sure that our new ones will fit in properly. So, I just like to take a screwdriver and compress that, and it should pop right out. So, now that we have the grille off, we do need to swap over our turn signals into our new grille. So, I'm going to take a Flat-head screwdriver, and we're going to pop those out of place. They're only held in by two tabs, but it is a little bit helpful to have a Flat-head on hand. So, what we're going to do is just push in these tabs and push down on our fog light or our turn signal, because it's going to push right out of the front of our grille, just like that. Very simple. So, if you press in this tab, kind of push down. The same thing for the other one. It'll push right out the front. So, before we hop into the install, I did want to step down and tell you guys a little bit more about this new RedRock grille compare it to our factory grille here, and show you some of the similarities and differences between the two. Now, overall, you can tell that this is going to be completely different. It's going to be a step up from our factory grille as far as styling is concerned. And this is also going to have some functionality as well. Now, just a brief overview of our factory grille as you can see, this is going to have the plain factory styling. We're going to have that Jeep logo up at the top. We're gonna have the iconic seven slots in the middle. It's going to be made of a plastic material. And we're just going to have the factory paint code on here with the Sahara inserts because I have the Sahara grille on the table. So, like I said, this new option by RedRock is going to be completely different. This will be made of an injection-molded ABS plastic material. So, it is going to be a little bit more rigid than the flimsy plastic material that comes with the factory grille. This is also going to have a more aggressive look to it. Not only are you getting painted teeth on the inner grille here, but this is also going to have an aggressive brow up top. We're going to have some angular designs over the headlights. So, you are getting more of an angry grille style with this new RedRock grille. Now, the air grille is made of a mesh metal material. So, this is going to not only allow better air flow into your radiator, as well as your AC condenser to keep temperatures down in your Jeep and making it very functional, but it's also going to provide some protection to those components back there as well. And, of course, we're getting the styling out of it with the painted inner grille. And I would like to mention that the grille itself is paintable so you can color-match it to your existing color scheme, you can color-match it to your factory paint code, or you can live in the nice matte black considering this inner grille is going to give it a nice contrast. Not to mention it also has everything that you need to install it. So, it will come with all of the kind of factory features. We're going to get new pop clips for the top. We're going to get new retainer clips. And this is also going to come with some new weatherstripping so you can ensure this is going to have a factory style fit. So, overall, not only is it going to help you out with style, but it is also going to help you out with function, and it's going to be very easy to install. So, what do you say we go ahead and prep this grille so we can get it on our Jeep? So, what we can do first is attach our weatherstripping. I have already taken off the backing on the 3M tape, but essentially what we're going to do is just center this and stick it to the top of the grille. This is going to allow the grille to seal with the hood. So, I just usually like to kind of figure out where the middle is, and then we can start from the middle, press that onto our grille, and move outward. Now, if the 3M doesn't really want to stick to the ABS material at first, what's gonna happen is once we attach this and close the hood, the hood's weight is going to allow the adhesion process to be a little bit better. It's going to give that weight and just press it on there while the hood is closed. We want to make sure you give it a good press while it's on the grille and on the table. Just move outward, keep it as even as possible. You can also trim it if you need to around this outer corner. Now, what we can do is install our turn signals. Now, these are just going to go in just the same way as we took them out in our factory grille. We're just going to pop this right through and the clips will attach with a little bit of pressure. So, you want to make sure you have them on the correct side, they will be labeled on the back left-hand and right-hand. So, I'm just gonna do this one real quick. You'll hear a click. You can do the same thing on the other side. Then we can flip the grille over and we can install our retainer clips on each of our mounts to make sure that the bottom of our grille is secured when it's on our Jeep. So, we're going to be provided with these little retainer clips. We can just press them onto each of the mounts. And we're going to have four down at the bottom, and then we'll have two on each mount above our turn signal. Now, after those are on, then we're ready to install our grille. So, what we can do now is line up the retainer clips at the bottom of our radiator support here, line it up with the top, and then we're going to give this a good press. So, after the retainer clips are set, what we can do is take our provided clips and we can install them on the top of our grille. They might be a little bit difficult at first. You can use a light dead blow to get them into place. It sounds like a little much, but just to get the grille and the ABS plastic to kind of stretch out, these do need to be installed and sometimes they don't want to go at first. Once you have a couple in, you can go back. All right. So, once they're in place, what we can do is plug in our turn signals and close up our hood. So, we can just take our plug, plug that back into place, make sure we hear it click, and do the same thing on the other side. Now, when you do this, you want to make sure that the weatherstripping is tucked underneath. And again, this is going to kind of form into place once you put some pressure on it. So, we can latch our hood. Kind of tuck this in a little bit if it's sticking out, and then you're all set to go.So, that is going to wrap it up for my review and install.
