Hey, guys. So, today I'm here with the Rugged Ridge 4-inch Oval Side Step Bars, fitting all 2018 and up four-door JL Wranglers. So if you're not a fan of the factory side step or you didn't get a side step out of the factory and you're looking for something to fill up that space, looking for something that's gonna give you some function as well as form, these are gonna be a great option to take a look at.So, first off, these are going to mainly be for getting a boost up into your Wrangler. And you're gonna have a large 4-inch stepping surface here to give you a bunch of real estate underneath your foot to get up inside of your Jeep. Now, these are gonna made of plastic but they're not gonna crack or fade on you because they are UV-protected and they do have a couple of ridges in here to help you out with a little bit of traction. Now, these are gonna help you out with some light side protection as well. And the reason why I say this is because these are not made to take the hardest of hits. Now, I would recommend this to someone who's doing any light crawling, anybody who's doing any daily driving and just really wants that step there to get up in their Wrangler. But I wouldn't recommend this to the ultimate rock crawler who's looking for some heavy-duty protection. So, if you are doing that, I would recommend to take a look at some side rocker guards. Now, these are still gonna be a lot more durable than that factory plastic step. They're made of a steel tube construction, and they also have a nice textured black powder coat finish on them that's gonna protect that steel underneath from any rusting, and they're also gonna give you a nice off-road look to them. So these are gonna be roughly $250 on the page, and that is pretty affordable, however, it's a pretty average price point when you take a look at side steps of this style. Now, other more expensive options that you may be seeing on the page, those are just gonna be more in-depth with their design. They may have a drop-down step, they may have a removable step, or they may be basing that price off of the material as well as the finish, for example, a stainless steel polished finish.Personally, I think if you're looking for something sleek and attractive to put on your Jeep, fill up that extra space in between your fenders, but also get some function out of, these are a great option to take a look at. So, install is gonna be a light two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You're gonna need a couple of basic hand tools and about two hours worth of your time. So, speaking of the install, let's jump into that now. The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, 3/8-inch drive ratchet, a 10-millimeter and 17-millimeter open-ended wrench, a 16-millimeter shallow socket, a 10-millimeter, and a 13-millimeter deep socket. So, to kick off this install, we're going to install our brackets first, then we can install our step once those brackets are already on our Wrangler. This makes it a little bit easier instead of installing our brackets and then basically bench pressing our step up into place. So, grab something comfy to lay on, grab your hardware and your tools, and let's head under the Jeep.So first, we're going to install our main bracket. This is what's gonna hold our step, and it's going to be mounted to our body. You will have a little stamp on here stating where they need to go. This is "DC," for driver center. So I'm just taking our provided bolt. This is gonna be the 13-millimeter bolt with a flat washer and a lock washer, and we're just gonna thread that into place. So now we can grab our pinch weld bracket. This is going to mount up to the pinch weld, but it's also gonna mount up to our main bracket here. So what I'm gonna do is just grab our provided hardware. So these will also be stamped with driver front, driver center, driver rear, as well as the passenger. So these are gonna be your small hardware, with the two flat washers and the nylon lock nut. Just gonna have to go ahead and thread that one into place. And I'm just putting these bolts through with the bolt head on the outside of the pinch weld. Once that's threaded on, we can take our larger bolt, this is gonna connect the two brackets together. You're gonna have the larger bolt, the two flat washers, and a nylon lock nut. So now, we're gonna do the same exact process for the other two brackets. Now we can do the same thing for the front. Threading in our top bolt into the body. Now we can grab our driver side front pinch weld bracket, go ahead and start running that up. So now we can do the same thing for our last bracket. So what we're gonna do now is just snug up all of our bolts, then we're going to install our side step. And if we have to go back and make any minor adjustments, we can always do that. So first, I'm gonna grab a 13-millimeter socket. We're gonna go ahead and tighten this top one up, making sure that it's straight. What we can do now is tighten up our pinch weld bolts. You're gonna need a 10-millimeter socket and a 10-millimeter wrench. So once that gets pretty snug, what we can do is just line that up the best we can with both the pinch weld as well as our bracket down here, and then we can just tighten that down. And then, of course, if we need to go back and make any adjustments, we can.So now for our bottom bolt that's connecting our two brackets, we're gonna tighten that down with a 16-millimeter socket for the bolt head side, as well as a 17-millimeter open-ended wrench for the nut side. All right, now we can repeat that process on the other two brackets. What we're gonna do now is attach our driver side side step, so making sure that the rivets in the bottom are lining up with our brackets. And once they're lined up, we can take our hardware. This is going to be the combo bolt, and we can thread those into our side step. Now we can do the same with the front and the rear. Now, if it's not lining up, like I said, you can just go back and adjust these points of attachment, and those should be able to line everything up for you. So we're gonna snug these up and then step back, take a look at our side step, if it needs to be raised up, if it needs to be tilted in or tilted out, and then we can just go ahead and torque everything down. Now we have to attach our last point of attachment, so let's go ahead and do that now. So now with a 13-millimeter socket and a ratchet or an impact wrench, we can go ahead and tighten those down. Now, I would like to mention, do not over tighten these, because it may strip the nuts. Now, after everything's tightened down, you can repeat the process on the other side and you're all set to go. So, that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe.
