Merideth: If you need a durable solution to protect your 2020 or newer JT Gladiator's hood from damage, this Bushwacker Trail Armor Hood Stone Guard will be a mod that you'll want to check out. Now, this will be great for your JT if you started to notice little rock chips or paint damage to the front of your hood and either want to cover them up to mask the imperfections or you just simply want to prevent any more from happening. Now, this guard is also great if you don't have any damage to your hood and, again, want to protect it, but you're also a fan of that look and the dark contrast that a stone guard gives off. Now, this will feature a flush-fit spanning all the way across the hood with cutouts on either side for the latches, which will give this a nice, very finished appearance. Now, what I think is most notable about this guard is the two-level design. As you can see right in the middle here, there's a raised extension, which will actually act as a deflector, keeping rocks and whatever other debris away from the rear portion of your hood. So, not only are you getting protection to the front area where you see the most damage most of the time, we are also getting some for the back as well. Now, this is made of a tough, high-quality TPO plastic material, so it is gonna be durable, it is resilient, as you can see here, and it's gonna be pretty flexible for that flush fit. So, it will be able to take some hits and hold up for a longer period of time as well. Now, the guard is also a matte black. It does have a textured finish to it, which is gonna match very well if you have any OE accessories still on your JT, but it's also gonna resist any scratching, fading, and overall deterioration from the elements over time. Now, this will also come with heavy-duty auto-grade tape on the back. This is going to allow it to give it that flush fit. Again, make sure that it is not gonna go anywhere, while also being a non-permanent modification so you can keep some peace of mind that you don't have to do any modification to your brand new JT's hood. Now, this will cost you about $120, which is right on par compared to other options available in the category. Now, what makes this stand out is the seamless fit and how it fits around the latches on either side, and the fact that it comes with this two-level design. Now, this will be flush, like I mentioned, from the front to the back, so it's gonna sit flat on the hood. Some other choices available on the page may take a more angled approach, but that angled approach is really for that deflector, which this will achieve in the middle. Now, I think if you're looking for a clean-looking guard to protect your brand new JT, then this is gonna be a great option to consider.Install will be a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, as you can probably imagine taking you about 15 minutes to get the job done. Now, speaking of the install, one of our customers has actually installed this on their JT, and he's gonna walk you through what that process looks like and the prep, getting this installed step by step. So, that's gonna wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Male Speaker: Hello. Today, we're installing the Jeep Trail Armor Hood Stone Guard by Bushwacker. This is a very simple installation. I'm gonna kind of go over the steps. First step with your Jeep, either this is Gladiator, so '20 to 2023 Gladiator install is to prep the surface completely. If you've got ceramic or wax or anything on there, you wanna make sure you prep it. The kit comes with an alcohol prep pad that you can use. I'm gonna use some alcohol and a lint-free cloth. And it comes with some stickers, which is vitally important whenever you order a part. So, I'm gonna spray down the hood area real well. The instructions also say to wash the surface, so you can use soap and wash it. I already washed this prior, but I'm just gonna go ahead and rub down and this will make the surface real tacky. A little hint or a little tip would be to run the engine for a little bit and it'll warm up the hood and it'll make it real easy for the tape because it has double-sided tape to stick on.So, once you feel like this is real tacky, depending on if you have ceramic or wax sealed on there, then you're good to go. And we'll just move on to the next step, which they want you to size up. Take a good look at the way this goes on and size it up real good so you know where you're positioned 1/16th of an inch from each side, but you'll see the bend in the body. So, just get a feel for the way it goes on, and then we're gonna peel the tape back about two inches on each piece of tape, and get prepared to put it in place. So, once you feel like, okay, it's a pretty good spot, you like the way it's positioned on either side, and as even as possible, this one really goes right to the edge of where the preparation is of the metal, then I would go ahead and just flip it over and pull your tape. But just make sure that you've got yourself lined up real good. So, what we're gonna do is we're gonna flip this over and we're going to pull the tape back and expose just about two inches, so where you can grab it. And I'll show you in the next step why a lot of folks will just want to come and pull the tape right off and place this on, but we're gonna pull all these back. The trickier ones here are gonna be in the corner because it bends. So, we're gonna have another piece to pull off here. All right. So, that one there. And then you have a real long one on the bottom. And the other side, just repeat the process on the other side. And when you put it on and you start to pull the tape back, you just want to apply pressure as you move along just make sure. If you need to have somebody help you, hold one side in place, not a bad idea, that way you just know it's on there evenly. But if you follow the body contour of the hood plus the plastic piece, you'll get it right on the front. This is probably the most difficult part of the whole install, is pulling the tape off.Okay. So, now we got all the tape on. This is what it looks like, and you'll see it should match in the instructions as well. Now you wanna center it and begin removing your tape. So, you have enough tape on there to kind of make it tacky, so you're gonna bring it down right on that. Line up your... And it's tacky just because you've got a little bit of tape exposed. On this side, do the same thing. And make sure it looks good. And if you need to adjust it, you can, but you'll get a good feel for it. And then from there, you wanna start in the middle, and pull these back in the middle, and push down. And if it doesn't seem like it's down all the way, you know, it's too far down, just move it up before you really start to clamp down on it. It looks good. Pull that one side off there, pull your other side off, and then the same thing in the corners. And this way, you're literally just peeling and you're putting it straight down. So, you're nice and tight in that corner there. It does overhang just a hair, from what I can tell. Put it on. Which is okay. And then we're gonna do the same thing on this side. And let's say the warm hood, like, having it run, your engine run for just, you know, 15 minutes or so.All right. So, now that we've got all the tape removed, just apply some good pressure to it and make sure that your fitting looks good on both sides, that, you know, it's even. The instructions call for 1/16th of an inch on either side to, like, measure it out. I did it visual, and it comes out to right about that amount. But keep it out of... They say 24 hours to keep this on before you go driving and 72 hours without washing. So, my Jeep stays in the garage, so I think by tomorrow this time it'll be fine to drive it, but I'm gonna go ahead and apply a little more pressure. Again, having a warm hood goes a long way because it really helps the tape be really tacky in the here. And that's it. That's as easy of an install you can get. So, there's the installation of the Stone Guard. And you get two Bushwacker stickers as well.Merideth: So, that's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of this Bushwacker Trail Armor Hood Stone Guard, fitting all 2020 and newer JT Gladiators. And remember, for all things Gladiator, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
