      Video Review & Installation

Hi, guys. So today we're checking out the LED Light Bar Tail Lights fitting all 2007 to 2018 at JK Wranglers. So if you're in search of an affordable set of tail lights that's gonna update the styling as well as the function of the back end of your Wrangler, this is gonna be a great choice to take a look into. So this is going to completely switch it up from the factory styling. As you can tell, we have a rugged style housing. This is gonna be great if you are a fan of the more offroad look, or you're looking to add that to the back end of your Wrangler. Now, not only are they going to look tough, but they also are going to be able to hold their own while they're on the trail. This is gonna be a durable housing and you are gonna get a polycarbonate lens with this, which essentially means that it's gonna be clear, but it's also going to be rugged and again be durable for the trail or really any kick up on the road. Now getting to the actual function of the light, as you can tell, this is going to have the light bar style, which I particularly like. I think it stands out from some of the other choices on the page. And this is also going to have a clear look to it. If you're a fan of a clear or a more euro style look, this is definitely gonna be right up your alley. Now those light bars inside are going to illuminate red and we're gonna have the LEDs down at the bottom for our backup light. Now those LEDs are going to outperform the halogen that comes from the factory if you are searching for some better lighting performance to make sure that you are more noticeable on the road to other drivers and you're looking for some better visibility while backing up at night. Now overall, I do really like the style of these especially with the black housing. It makes it look very sleek and it adds a nice touch to the back end of the Wrangler and it will also match with any other LED accessories that you already have on your JK.Now with all that being said, these are gonna come in at roughly $175, which will make these a more affordable choice for tail lights on the page. And when choosing tail lights, it really comes down to your personal preference in the style and the overall construction. Some other options are gonna be set up a little bit differently as far as the lenses are concerned. So if you're a fan of the clear option or the clear lens here, this is definitely gonna be right up your alley. Some other choices may come with a smoked lens for a more blacked out look or a red lens for a more traditional look. Then again some other options are usually going to have some different styling as far as the arrangement of the LEDs inside. Again, this is going to have those light bar LEDs, some other options may have singular LEDs, or some other options may have some extra bells and whistles like running lights that have a fiber optic style to them and so on.So overall in my opinion, I particularly think that if you're looking for something that's gonna keep it budget friendly, it's gonna add a nice, rugged look to the back end of your Wrangler, and is also going to add a lot of lighting performance, this is going to be a great choice. Now when it comes to install, I'm gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. This is going to be very easy to get the job done in about an hour with some very basic hand tools. So speaking of that install, let's jump into that now.The tools that I used for my install were an impact wrench with a Phillips head socket, a pair of pliers, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a 5.5-millimeter wrench. So our first step to taking out our tail lights is to remove the two Phillips head screws that are holding it in. Now I'm gonna be using a Phillips head socket and my impact wrench but you could also use a Phillips head screwdriver for this.So the two screws that we need to remove are on the inside. I'm gonna take that Phillips head socket and go ahead and remove those.Once those are removed, we're gonna save those because we'll reuse them. But we can pull off the tail light and press on on this tab to unplug it. And that is the uninstall of our tail light. We're gonna grab our new one and install it. So before we hop in to the rest of the install, I wanted to step down to tell you guys a little bit more about these new tail lights, especially in comparison to our factory one and show you some of the similarities and the differences between the two.Now starting off just as a brief overview of our factory tail light here, we're gonna have a black outer housing, we're gonna have that standard red reflector on the front with the white reflector on the bottom for our backup light, and we're gonna have a halogen bulb in the inside. Now that's gonna be great for stock applications. However when it comes to performance and styling, there's not really a lot going on here. Now moving over to our new tail light, this is gonna completely switch it up. Now this is going to have the LED lights inside, of course, that's going to help you out with better lighting performance. We're also gonna have a light bar style look to it. I particularly think that that looks a lot better than the red reflector here, and it's going to add some more modern styling. Now, this will have a black housing, so that's gonna add some sleekness. But I do like the fact that it also has a clear lens and more of a clear euro style look to it. Even though it is not necessarily a full euro style look, it does add a very clean aesthetic to the tail light itself. Now the actual housing on the outside of that is going to have a pattern to it. I do like that, considering that that's a more offroad and rugged look. And it is going to be durable as well. This is going to be a polycarbonate lens on the front. And we are going to have a durable housing to make sure that it's gonna be able to hold its own while it's out on the trail. And we're gonna have multiple red reflectors. So we're gonna have one on the outside here, that's gonna add some extra styling but also make you more noticeable on the road to other drivers. And then we're also going to have one on the outside. I do like the fact that it spans the whole length of the tail light. It adds a little bit of extra styling there as well and of course, again, making you more noticeable on the road to other drivers, which is definitely important when it comes to safety. Now as far as the install is concerned, this is going to be incredibly easy. It is a plug and play connector, which makes it very simple and to the point. And we will have a built in resistor here, which will make sure that the LEDs are not going to overheat. And they're also going to...it's going to be more of an anti-flicker as well. It does come with a bracket, very simple and straightforward. But I like the fact that we don't have to do any additional wiring with this. So what do you say we get that bracket on and install our tail light? So before we can install our light itself, we do need to make sure that our bracket for our resistor is on, so we can clamp it to the body of the Jeep to make sure that it's not hanging around or touching any wires because these do get pretty hot. So what we're gonna do is take our provided hardware, which is the nylon lock nut and the Phillips head screw, and we're gonna attach our resistor to this bracket, and then we'll be able to clamp it on once it is inside the Jeep. And that is going to happen with our little clips here, our retainer clips. So what I'm gonna do is grab the screw. We're gonna put that through the front. Then we're gonna take our nylon lock nut, and thread that on. We're gonna do the same for the other one, and then we're gonna tighten it down. So once the 2 screws are attached, what we're gonna do is take a Phillips head screwdriver and a 5.5-millimeter wrench and we're gonna tighten those up.So after those are on, what I recommend to make sure that these don't fall off, because as you can see, we are gonna have another piece of metal in there but it is gonna be pretty thin, I recommend to take a pair of pliers and just clamp on these a little bit. It just makes it more secure. Now once those are clamped, we're gonna head over to the Jeep. We're gonna secure our resistor bracket and we're gonna plug in our tail light and mount it up. So it may be a little bit difficult to see but we have a piece of sheet metal here that we're gonna attach our bracket to. You wanna make sure that the flat side is placed on to that piece of sheet metal there. Then we're gonna take our retainer clip and push that on. And same thing for the bottom one.So once that bracket is mounted up, we're gonna grab our harness, we're gonna plug that in. This is gonna be a plug and play factory style connector. Make sure you hear it click. You're gonna tuck that harness in. And we're gonna mount up our tail light. Then we're gonna take our factory hardware and we're gonna secure that down. I'm gonna use that same Phillips head socket and we're gonna tighten them up.So after this side is complete, we're gonna repeat that same process on the other side. So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and install. Make sure you like and subscribe for more videos and products just like this. And always keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
