Hey, guys. I'm Eric with ExtremeTerrain. In this video I'm gonna give you my review and install of this Bestop Sunrider in Black Diamond, fitting all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators with the Factory Hard Top. You should really be checking this out if you want a very quick and easy way to open up the freedom panel section of your Jeep's hard top. I really like Jeep's design with the freedom panels, it's very easy to take them on and off but let's face it, you are limited in how and when you can do that. You always have to be at a standstill, you have to hop out of your Jeep, flip a couple of latches, take them off, and then you have to put them somewhere. Now, you can put them in the factory-provided sleeve that fits pretty well and you can zip it up and it holds them securely. And that's all great. But let's face it, you have to pull over to the side of the road to do that. And if you're driving with the top open, and all of a sudden you ride into some weather, you're gonna have to pull over and you're gonna be getting wet while you do that. Now, this Sunrider from Bestop is really an answer to all those kind of issues and shortcomings that our freedom panels have. In fact, the thing I like the best about it is you can be rolling down the road and as long as you're not doing crazy fast freeway speeds, you can flip a couple of latches that are at the front of the Sunrider, and just pop it open even while you're moving. Same thing goes for closing it. If you're at a stoplight or something like that, you can easily reach up, pull it down, flip the two latches and you're all closed. It's really easy, takes a few seconds and you're not having to mess around with the freedom panels and figuring out where to put those away and all the other hassle that goes along with that. As great as the freedom panels are, you are restricted in how and when you can use them. Now, this Sunrider from Bestop is a really well-designed unit. In fact, the installation is very simple as you'll see here in a few minutes in this video, there's no modifications you're gonna have to make to your Jeep whatsoever, all you need to do is remove the freedom panels, and put this together with a little bit of tabletop installation, putting a couple of brackets together and then mounting it in place using a total of I think about 10 bolts, it's about as easy as it gets. And the clamps that are on the Bestop also clip down and lock into place using the mounting points that your freedom panel uses. Now, Bestop is a very popular brand these days, and that's for good reason. They have a level of fit and finish into their design and in their construction that in my opinion is better than OE quality. Now, backed by a five-year limited manufacturer's warranty, this unit currently is priced around $825. It doesn't exactly make it cheap but I'll tell you what, like I said Bestop's quality is really top-notch and it's worth the investment in my opinion. Now, as far as the installation goes, guys, it's very basic one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, budget about one hour of your time, you should have no problem getting this done with just a couple of tools that I'll show you here in a second. The only trick to the installation that I would recommend is that once you take your freedom panels off, make sure that all the grooves and edges around where the freedom panels attach to your Jeep and where the weatherstripping is, make sure you clean those off thoroughly, there's no debris or anything in there like that, and then let it dry before you put your Bestop on.The other thing worth noting, as far as the installation goes is there are some torque specifications in the instruction manual with this kit, so make sure you follow those as well. So, let's go ahead and take a look at the tools we're gonna use and go ahead with the installation. All right, guys, tools for this installation are pretty basic, we're gonna use an impact wrench, the T40 Torx bit, and a pair of needle-nose pliers. All right, guys, now the first part of our installation we're gonna do up here on the table, we're gonna do some assembly work to kind of get everything put together, and then we're gonna set it up on the Jeep. Now, one of the first things we need to do is you need to grab these door rail brackets, and I have our Sunrider top upside down. So, right now I'm actually on the passenger side of the top and the corresponding bracket the way you know which goes on which side is there's a little sticker on here with a number attached to it. Just follow the instruction booklet, the number will dictate which side it goes on. Driver's side has a unique number compared to the passenger side. So, I have the passenger side bracket here, and what we're gonna do is there's a little cable that runs along the seam on the sides of our top and it comes out here at the back in this kind of S or Z-shaped clip. And what we're gonna do is run this through the bracket so that it comes through here and then sits in this little pocket here on the side. And what the purpose of this cable is it provides a little bit of spring tension on it so that when you pop your top open and flip it back, it'll open up a lot easier and there won't be so much resistance as you open up the Sunrider top. So, to make this a little bit easier, you might wanna grab a pair of needle-nose pliers to kind of grab this, there's not a whole lot of slack to work with here and it's a little bit tight and that's by design. So, let's go ahead and see if we can get this fished through there. All right, now as you can see, we have that seated in there, and that'll kind of tug on that little groove right there and that will provide just enough spring tension to make it a lot easier to open up the top.All right, guys, once you've mounted the Z clip with a cable into the other side of bracket, go ahead and fold the bracket up like this up against this part of the Sunrider top and feed it in the holes. There's a couple of guide pin holes right here and grab these short T40 Torx bit bolts, and we're gonna feed them in here like this. There's a little bit of yellow thread lock around them already. So, you're only gonna be able to get them in so far by hand but go ahead and tighten them up. Again, T40 Torx bit. And then do the same thing with the other bracket. All right, now with those brackets attached, we can go ahead and set it up on the Jeep and start getting it fitted into place. All right, guys, now we pretty much have it rested up here, I had a friend to help me on the other side when I kind of flop it down to kind of catch it. You could probably do this by yourself, I just wanna make sure we weren't gonna damage our Jeep setting it into place. What we wanna look for is on this little bracket right here, there's a piece like a post kind of sticking out. And that's gonna go down in here and the hole of our frame on the Jeep, kind of fits into place like that. And then on the underside, this little free-swinging arm it's kind of dangling and you know what I mean, when you take a look at it. That is gonna be a thread point, and we're gonna take one of the longer Torx bit bolts and thread it up through the bottom and it's gonna thread in to this threading up here on the top and cinch this down nice and tight. So, that's the proper alignment. The other thing you wanna check up here as far as alignment goes is this hole right here that has the stainless eyelet. This is also another threaded section right here. You will look down through there and you should be able to see all the way through, there's another hole and the other long Torx bit bolt is gonna feed up through the bottom at this location. So, let's go ahead and grab that hardware and get this thing cinched down. All right, guys, so grab the long Torx bit bolts. Again, you see how this kind of flops like that, just kind of hold that in place and thread this up through. Let's get the other ones started here. You're gonna take a spacer for this back one and the recessed part is gonna be facing down over the head of your Torx bit bolt. So, go ahead and grab your tool, the T40 Torx bit, and go ahead and tighten them up. Then go ahead and repeat that over on the passenger side of the Gladiator. All right, now one of the last steps to the install here, guys, is go ahead and grab this bracket. What this is gonna do is this basically going to cinch down the rear part of the frame and pinch it down to the center bar of the roll cage or roll bar for your Jeep. So, what you wanna do is kind of grab it like this and you're gonna with your fingers kind of pinch down and squeeze the rear part of the frame for the Sunrider and hold it close and then this will cinch down over it. Then we're gonna take two of the shorter Torx bit bolts and thread them in here to hold it in place. All right, guys, that wraps up this review and install of the Bestop Sunrider in Black Diamond fitting all 2020 and later Jeep Gladiators with the original equipment Hard Top. And of course for all things Gladiator keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.
