Construction. Constructed out of steel coated in two different finishes - a rust-defying e-coating and textured powder coat paint - the Rugged Ridge Sherpa roof rack fits 2007-2018 JK 4 door Jeep Wranglers. The rack weighs 78 lbs and measures 76 inches by 40 inches by 10 inches. The cargo rack sports 3 light tabs which can also be used to mount other accessories such as an aftermarket antenna. It is protected by a 5 year limited warranty against defects.

Specs. The Sherpa is a heavy duty, universal cargo carrier for the roof of Jeep Wranglers. This particular model is made for 4 door JK Wranglers. The tilting feature, which enables access to take off hard and soft tops without removing the whole rack, adds to its convenience. The design is rugged and its surface is thoroughly rust proofed.

Features & Accessories. The Rugged Ridge Light Bar Lowering Kit, which allows 4 lights to be fitted instead of 3, is a premier accessory compatible with the Sherpa. It can also make use of the Rugged Ridge Sherpa roof rack adapter kit, which enables mounting of aftermarket crossbars.

Application. There is no need to drill new holes to install the Sherpa roof rack, which attaches to OE bolt mounting points. The windshield brackets are used to bolt the front mountings in place, while those at the rear are secured via the bumper bolts. If lights are being used with the light bar, then a wire needs to be run through the pre-drilled hole in the left windshield bracket to supply them with power. This should be sealed with a rubber grommet and silicone.

      Terribly weak

This roof rack is terribly designed. The bolt-together joints cannot be tightened enough to eliminate sag and bending at the connection points. Over-tightening results in damage the the rack, which also results in weakness and sagging at connection points.

      Poor Fitment

After spending a good amount of money on this product I was very disappointed with the poor quality control and fitment. I am above average mechanically inclined but struggled with the front bar for hours due to the poor fit. First they could have shaved an 1/8 inch all around on the bottom brackets as they are way to close to the finish of the vehicle. That would have been ok if the fit had been even close. The fact that it is not caused problems. The front top bar and lower brackets both have multiple angles and neither lines up with the other. In fact these were 3/4 of an inch out! We also had to disassemble the top bar from the bottom and re-drill a hole that was 1/4" out! Other than that issue ( which I consider huge ) the rack looks good and is relatively sturdy, although when they rate it at 300 lbs I would say I would not put any more than that on it.

      Roof Rack

I purchased this product after speaking with a representative who assured me it would work with my roof top tent. Purchasing it was fluid and easy, delivered on time and was the product I ordered. Thus I recommend Extreme to my friends. Overall installation is quite easy. The major problem was fitement of the product. Giving the product needs to be mass produced and allow for jeeps individual variances, one does expect a few issues. This product however has fitement issues within itself. The tubing and bolt through design for joiner is not precise, thus creating weak joints. The overall distance from front to back is to large of span for the light tube joints and a roof top tent. The windshield light bar was no where's close to fitting my jeep, and now have to remove the bar and open the mounting holes to allow for a cleaner fit. I followed the instructions to the letter and even had a fellow off-roader read them and double check in case I missed something. I have rugged ridges two piece snorkel and love the product and how it installed. this rack has disappointed me in all aspects, I installed my roof top tent and allowed my kids to crawl up and lay down inside. Totaling a whopping 70 lbs they had the main two cross bars flexing. Then asked my 120 lb wife to join them and well that was it for that adventure. The mounting hardware stabbed my jeep top, which good thing I trimmed that hard ware or it would have been worse. Needless to say, the tent came off, the rack came off and I am going to go with my original choice of racks.

      Great rack

The rack is very sturdy. Cross bars are not included which is a huge bummer. With the cross bars you could mount nearly anything. The main reason I chose this rack was the tilt feature and it did not disappoint. The price is a little on the high side but I would buy again.
