How Jeep Stacks Up

Today we’re looking at how Jeep stacks up against other models in tests conducted across the web. The tests were conducted by some of the most notable names in the industry. Remember, the tests featured are in no way conclusive, but reflect the views of the parties who conducted and published the results. We had fun checking these out and hope you do too.

Jeep Cross Over Competition

A CNET study pits the Jeep Renegade up against the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX3. The experiment evaluated the three CUVs (Crossover Utility Vehicles) on:

• Cabin technology
• Utility and handling
• Off-road ability

According to the tests, the Renegade came in third overall. However, it bested both of its rivals when it came to off-road conditions and abilities. You can see the rest of the results here or watch the video below.

Buy This, Not That

A picture-slide presentation from thestreet.com encourages buyers to purchase the iconic Jeep Wrangler instead of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. We could have told you that… The article sites the Wrangler’s newest and best ever transmission and interior attributes. Those, along with pretty good resell value and, of course, its initial price tag, make Wrangler the sensible option when considering a vehicle that was created for military use. The same post chooses the Jeep Grand Cherokee over the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Once again, Jeep beat Benz. The people over at thestreet.com contend that the slightly better interior luxuries and entertainment controls don’t justify the $21,000 higher price tag. The latest Grand Cherokee was developed while Jeep was still owned by Daimler-Chrysler, so both vehicles have the same chassis. A British Perspective and SUV Competition

We thought we’d have a look at the British perspective of things, and cover carmagazine.co.uk’s group test of the Jeep Cherokee, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Audi Q5, and Range Rover Evoque. Keep in mind, this was conducted in the second quarter of 2015, using the UK top-spec Cherokee Limited with the 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine. Turns out the Cherokee came in dead last in a bevy of areas, including:

• Exterior Appearance
• Interior luxury
• On-road/off-road performance

Because we’re Jeep lovers here, it’s easy to look past what some people may consider negative attributes. That’s not to say we don’t have our own gripes with our Jeeps, to be sure. You can see the rest of the results of the British group test here. There you have it. You win some, you lose some. That being said, the numbers are in, and Jeep is definitely winning. See how the February numbers compare to other auto makers below. We've been reporting on Jeep's increasing sales lately, and the official numbers show double digit gains from 2015. The bottom 10 include some of the most popular car brands out there. It's still early in the year, so there's no telling what the numbers will look like when it's all said and done.
