Merideth: If you're in search of an easy way to get some better performance for your 2010 to 2020 4.0 liter 4Runner, this K&N Series 57 FIPK Cold Air Intake will be right up your alley. Now, this will be great for the 4Runner owner looking for a cold air intake system that they can easily pop into their truck, and immediately reap the benefits, with no tune required. Now, with this system, we're reusing the factory air box. This is also going to make it a great option for the 4Runner owner who enjoys the benefit of protection if they're in a muddy or wetter climate, and want to rest assured that their filter stays safe on or off-road. Not to mention, this system is CARB-certified, if you're looking for a cold air intake that is CARB-certified. And you can find that CARB EO number right here on our site, or on the sticker in the box, when you receive the system. This system will feature two parts, or main parts here, the large drop-in filter, and upgraded intake tube that will ultimately allow some small horsepower and torque gains, which can be felt in your throttle response. Now, starting off with the filter, this is going to have an oil design, making it cleanable and reusable, so you won't have to keep replacing it after so many thousand miles, like your factory paper element. And the filter will also feature that sticky oily surface to trap any micro contaminants, while being high flow to allow more air and cleaner air into the system. Now, the intake tube will take that same effect with a straight-through style construction, eliminating any resonators, creating streamlined airflow right into your intake system. Now, this system, although being pretty minimal, is going to be built tough, and designed very well. Now, the filter will be made of a specialized oiled cotton-based filter media, and again, that's going to allow better flow and better filtration, while also being reusable, so you can continue to benefit from this system for years to come. The intake tube will be made of a high-quality HDPE construction, which essentially is a high-density plastic that's extremely durable, and resistant to high temps, which is very needed to keep the intake system or the air in the system cool, and to reduce any heat soak from the engine bay. This also comes with all the necessary clamps, the couplers, and some hoses, as well as some fittings for a no-fuss and factory-like install. When it comes to price, you will be saving with this system, at about $300. Now, I like that this will offer more of that hybrid setup, allowing you to upgrade the performance of the filter and the intake tube, and get the benefits of a solid cold air intake, while reusing the factory air box. Now again, it's great if you want that added protection, and to keep it simple as a whole, making this a great pick to save a couple of extra bucks for your 4Runner.Install is going to be a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you about an hour or so to get this on to your 4runner. And at this point, we can head over to the shop, and check out the detailed breakdown of how to do that step-by-step. So that's going to wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Mechanic: The tools required for this install include a ratchet, a 19-millimeter wrench, a clip remover tool, a tape measure, 8 and 10-millimeter sockets, and a razor blade. What's up, guys. Today we're installing an intake on our 4Runner, so let's get started. So, the first thing we need to do is pop off our engine cover to get access to our clamps, as well as some of our hoses. So to pop off our engine cover, we can just lift on the front to pop it out of our grommets, and then pull forward. Next, we can disconnect our crankcase vent hose. So we can pinch on the clamp, and then pop that off. And then, we'll also pop off this vent hose on our fuel pressure regulator. Next, we can come back and pop off the clip that's holding in our wire harness. So we'll grab a clip remover tool, and wiggle that out. Next, we can take a 10-millimeter socket to loosen up our clamp, as well as remove this bolt.Next, we can come back to the clamp on our throttle body, and do the same thing. Next, we can wiggle our intake tube out of place. Next, we can come back to our intake box, and pop off these four clips to remove our filter. And next, we can fully remove our hose. So we'll grab the clamp on the other side, and slide that out of the way, and then wiggle our hose free. Now, we can install our new intake filter. So we'll just slide that into the box where we removed our stock one from. We're going to leave the top loose for now, so that it will be easier to get our intake tube into place, and then we can come back and reinstall our clamps. So now, we're ready to assemble our intake tube. So we'll get our plastic fitting into our threaded hole, attach our two lines, and tighten that down. So to attach our plastic fitting, we can just thread that into our pre-threaded hole. You want to be careful not to put too much pressure on the smaller piece, as you can break it. And then, once you have your thread started, you can take a 19-millimeter wrench to tighten that down. Now you don't want to over-tighten this, as it is a plastic fitting, and you can strip out the threads. Once you have that attached, you can attach your two lines. First, we'll do the one for the fuel pressure regulator by just wiggling that on, and then we can do our larger one for our PCV. And now, we're ready to get this installed into the 4Runner.So now, since K&N makes this intake compatible with multiple Toyota vehicles with the same engine, we're going to have to trim our PCV hose to size. So we're going to take about four inches off of that, so we'll measure it out, and then take a razor blade to make our cut. So now we can take our tape measure to measure out four inches, and then we'll grab our razor blade to make our cut. Next, we can install the two clamps from our factory PCV hose onto our new one. And now, we're ready to get our intake tube installed into the 4Runner.So, now we can come back lot our throttle body, and install our coupler. We have our two smaller clamps on either slide, and then we can slide that on. And then, we'll take our 8-millimeter socket to tighten down the clamp connecting to our throttle body. Next, we can install our intake tube and our PCV line. So first, we're going to take our other coupler, and slide that over the other side of our intake pipe. We're going to put that flush for now, to give us more room to get this installed onto our air box, and then we can slide our coupler towards our air box. Next, we'll slide our PCV hose onto the fitting on our valve cover, and then slide our clamp into place. And then, we'll slide our intake tube into our coupler.Next, we can install the line for our fuel pressure regulator. Now, you're going to have to reuse your stock line, and we have a fitting to connect the two. So we'll slide that fitting onto one side, and then connect that to the hose supplied in our kit. And then, we can attach that back to our fuel pressure regulator.Next, we can install our clamps onto our other coupler. So, the larger one is going to go on the intake tube side, and the smaller one is going to go towards the air box. Now, we're going to have to push our coupler off a little bit to get the smaller one to fit. And then we can line this up, and slide our coupler into place. Now we can go back and secure our air box, so that we can tighten down our coupler. So, we'll just push these clips back into place, and then there's one more on the front side, right down here. And now, with that secured, we can tighten down our two clamps, so we'll take our 8-millimeter socket to tighten these down. And now, once we have our intake box side tightened down, we can come back to our throttle body, and tighten down our one remaining clamp with that same 8-millimeter socket. And now, lastly, we can reinstall our engine cover. Now, these two hooks are going to go onto these back grommets, and the two grommets on our engine cover are going to go onto these two posts. So we'll clip that into place, and then push down to lock that in.So, that'll wrap up this review and install of the K&N Series 57 FIPK Cold Air Intake for your 2010 to 2020 4.0L 4Runner. Thank you for watching, and for all things 4Runner, keep it right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.
