    Review & Installation Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the Recon Smoked Turn Signals with Amber LEDs fitting all 2007 to 20016 JKs. These turn signals are also available with clear lenses so you can customize the look of your Jeep. These turn signals are for anyone looking to get that smoked or stealthy look on the front of their Jeep. There are a few different ways to accomplish that look, but these are a nice, easy, plug and play solution and you get the benefit of an LED so you're going to have that crisp clean on and off and a nice, bright light that's going to last a long time. Now these are a little bit more expensive than other LED turn signals on the market, but Recon has a reputation for making a really high quality product and with these, you really do get what you pay for. Recon makes a really high quality light. These are designed to be plug and play and they'll snap right into the factory mounting locations in the grill and plug right into the factory wiring harness. Now the housing and the lense are high-quality and well built, but what's more important is the actual LED inside the light. Anytime you smoke a lense, there's a chance you could lose some brightness so the LED's that Recon uses are really, really bright and you'll get a lot of that back. Also, having a high-quality LED means it's not going to burn out for a really long time. These'll last a lot longer than a factory incandescent bulb. Now sometimes when you install an LED in a turn signal, you can have a hyper flash situation. That's when the computer of the Jeep thinks that your LED bulb is burnt out and it let's you know that by flashing the turn signal twice as fast as it normally would. That's due to the lower resistance of an LED as opposed to an incandescent bulb. Recon takes care of that by providing a load resistor in their kit. Now we installed these lights on both a 2010 JK and a 2015 JK and neither of them had the hyper flash situation even without the load resisters. But it's really nice that Recon includes them just in case you need them.Like I said, these lights are designed to be completely plug and play and the installation is really simple. We got these installed on our Jeep by removing the grill. To do that, there are a couple of plastic clips you have to remove from the top of the grill. The whole grill will pop out. You can remove the factory lights by just compressing the plastic clips, unplug them, pop the new lights in and put the new grill back into place. There actually aren't any tools necessary for this installation, but you might want to have a screwdriver handy to remove the plastic clips.Another way to get these installed if you don't want to remove your grill and if you don't have factor inner fenders is right from inside the fender well. We've had some success doing that as well and it can shave down installation time even more. No matter how you decide to get these installed, the entire installation should take less than a half an hour, maybe a little bit more if you have to install the load resisters, but even in that case, Recon includes everything you need from vampire clips to all the wire.Like I said at the beginning, these are a little bit more expensive than some other LED turn signals on the market, but there's a reason for that. You really do get what you pay for. These lights are going to snap right into the factory locations, the wiring is going to plug right into the factory wiring harness, and most importantly, the LED's are going to be really bright and they're going to last a really long time for you. In my opinion, if you're going to do LED turn signals, it's worth spending a little bit of extra money and only having to do it once. So if you're looking for that stealthy smoke look on the front end of your Jeep, I highly recommend the Recon lights. You're going to spend a little bit more money up front but you're going to get a really high quality product that's going to install really easily and last a long time. This kit is complete even if you need the load resisters to take care of the hyper flash situation and the install could not be any easier. So that's my review of the Recon Smoke Turn Signals with Amber LED's available for all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

1 2011 Wrangler - NowhereToTurn Installation Time: Full Day

      Don't waste your time.

These are NOT plug and play. I ordered these last week and have had them installed both with and without the load resistors. Even with the load resistor the product still hyperflashes. I will be returning this terrible product.

      Failing Already

I put these in last September and now 7 months later half the led’s on the driver side aren’t working. The warranty is expired. Will buy a different brand to replace.

      Nice looking light

These lights look nice, the clips to tie in the resistors wouldn't make a good connection. I took them back off and they had not even gone through the coating on the wire. I ended up stripping the wires and soldering. I wouldn't waste the time on the clips. Lights are very nice looking though!

3 2017 Wrangler - RickyD Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

      Jury still out!

Very easy to install. Ran out of time after installing, chasing a hyper flash on left side. It comes and goes. Will be reaching out to manufacture in coming days. Just like the fender lights install at the same time, not really sure they were worth the money.

2 2018 Rubicon - LeeB Installation Time: Afternoon

      Resistors needed

Hyper flash condition present when installed on my 2018 Rubicon. Per instructions, need to mount supplied resistors to piece of flat metal for heat sync purposes which there is not much of in front turn signal area. Do not use supplied connectors for resistors; they are worthless, barely penetrate wires’ insulation even with squeezing tight with pliers. For how expensive they are, they should come with resistors already hard wired in line.

1 2017 Wrangler - RickT Installation Time: Afternoon

      Waste of time and money

First reaction after receiving the lights was they were a good quality product. As you install them your mind will change. The lights take some manipulating to get them to snap into the grill properly. The tabs do not line up properly and you’ll have to fight them into the grill. Once installedk the OEM plug will lift your spirts as to the ease of the installation. As soon as I tested the lights I received turn signal errors on both sides and rapid flashing. Recon provides resistors to eliminate these errors. There are zero instructions on how these ridiculously cheap resistors are to be installed and which wires to attach them to. After some online research I determined which lines to clip the resistors to. Then mounting to the Jeep presented additional problems. Drilling holes, splicing wires in a relatively wet location is a terrible idea. To make matters worse, I was never able to get rid of the right turn signal error. After all that, I sent them back for a return. Big waste of a day.
