Omix-ADA offers this non-nonsense black rubber example for Jeep Wrangler AX4 and AX5 transmissions. This component lets you put the finishing touch and a bit of extra protection to your classic Wrangler's manual shifter.

Construction. Omix-ADA makes this shifter boot out of molded black rubber. It has a circular shape and weighs 1.6 ounces. Installation is quick and easy. Omix-ADA provides a 5 year standard limited warranty against defects in workmanship and materials on this Jeep interior part.

Application. Fits 1987-1999 Wrangler YJ and TJ models.

      Fit Perfectly

This boot fit my AX5 shifter mechanism perfectly. I ended up taking the complete shifter assembly apart, cleaning it, re-greasing it, and then reassembling it with the new boot. Note that you will need to remove the shifter shaft from the shift pivot ball mechanism. Some recommend placing screwdrivers up inside to try to release it. This didn't work for me, and isn't really a good method. The best way to remove the shifter shaft is to carefully clamp the assembly in a vise upside down, and use a hammer with a punch or dull chisel and hammer around the outer edge of the square shaft assembly until the shaft releases. My assembly was so tight that the force of the hammer blows was really the only way to remove the shaft. The boot can then be lubed slightly, and slid over the inner square portion of the ball / shaft assembly.
