Review & Install Video
I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP Formed Front Light Bar fitting all 2007 and up JKs with the factory front bumper. This is the same formed front light bar that is available for the Off Camber Fabrications front bumper, but again this one has all the bracketry and is designed to work with your factory front bumper. Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this light bar which is a very simple installation.
This, again, is designed to bolt directly onto your Jeep. You're only going to have to do a little bit of trimming on your front frame cover if you're still running one, but it's not gonna be a big deal for most of you. It's a very easy and small amount of cutting and for the impact that this light bar has, I think it's more than worth it for most of you. Overall, the whole installation isn't going to take you more than two hours to get done even with all of the trimming and adjusting that you might have to do, but we'll get a little bit more into the installation in just a minute.
We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of the light bar. When some of you hear light bar, you might be thinking LED light bar, but this is a light bar in the more old-school sense of the term. This is a place to mount lights. This is a bar in which to mount your auxiliary lights and this is one of the two different options from MBRP. This is their formed light bar. They also have a round, tubular light bar that is a little bit more traditional, but this one is formed.
It gives you a little bit more of a modern look and this is really designed for those of you who want to keep your factory front bumper in place. You're not ready to upgrade to a full plate steel front bumper. You don't need to upgrade because you don't need those additional features. Whatever the reason is, you wanna hang onto your factory front bumper, but you wanna add a bumper hoop that gives you the opportunity to mount either a 10-inch light bar or up to 4 auxiliary light bars.
This does have a bunch of different light mount holes cut into it, and they're all slotted to give you some adjustability and really allows you a lot of flexibility with which lights you choose to mount on your light bar. So, again, this is for those of you who don't wanna upgrade to a new front bumper, but want to install something that's going to change the look of your front bumper and give you a place to mount some auxiliary lights, that's going to fit really well, and be really well built.
This light bar is made from 12-gauge steel that is CNC cut and brake-formed to give you the unique look and style that you see in front of you. Again, this is going to be a little bit more of a modern look. It's a little bit boxy, but some of you like that. Some of you are really after that look and this is going to be a great way of achieving that. This is also covered in a LineX coating right out of the box. Some companies don't coat their products and you have to do that. Some will coat it in paint or powder coat, but this is available from Off Camber Fabrications, right out of the box with a thick, heavy bed liner LineX coating on it which is going to hold up really, really well.
This is on the leading edge of your Jeep, so whether you're going down those narrow trails and you're brush dragging across your light bar or you're driving down the highway and you're getting stone throws, this LineX coating is going to hold up really well to any of that abuse. It's not going to chip down to the steel, which can create a rusting issue. It's going to be a really durable finish and again, you're getting it right of the box.
As I said before, this is designed to mount an industry standard-width 10-inch LED light bar or up to four auxiliary light bars on it. It does have a bunch of different mounting locations drilled into it, and those are all slider holes to give you some adjustability and this comes with all of the bracketry needed to mount this right onto your Jeep with your factory front bumper. As I said before, I am giving this install a one out of three wrenches, but it might take you up to two hours to get this installed because there is a little bit of cutting of that top frame cover to do which can take a little bit of additional time.
So as far as tools go, you're going to need your traditional hand tools, but you're also going to need a Dremel tool, a cutoff tool, a Sawzall, a hacksaw, some sort of cutting tool to cut through the plastic of that top frame cover. Now the first step in getting this installed is removing the splash shield on the bottom of your Jeep if you still have that installed. Then you're going to remove that frame cover that we just talked about and also remove your grill. All of those pieces do have to come off to get all of the brackets in place to get this mounted up.
Once you have all of those pieces removed, and removed carefully because you can reuse all of the clips for all of those pieces, then you'll go ahead and install the brackets on the frame horns for your new light bar. Now those of you with the 2012 and up JK are going to need a vacuum pump relocation kit in order to get those brackets in place. Your vacuum pump and the bracket for your new light bar do occupy the same space on the Jeep, so you are going to have to move that vacuum pump. Those of you with the 2007 to 2011 JK don't have to worry about that.
Once you have the brackets installed on the frame horn, you'll go ahead and finish assembling the light bar on the ground or on the table. There's some additional bracketry that you'll attach to the light bar that you see here and the final step is going to be mounting your new light bar with its brackets, onto the brackets you already installed onto the frame horns of your Jeep and doing that trimming that we talked about. That top frame cover piece can be reused with the factory clips. You just have to cut a little bit off of the ends of it.
Once you're finished with that, of course, pop your grill back on, pop your splash guard back on, and you're finished. All in all, an easy install, but I am saying around two hours because of the cutting you have to do. You'll wanna be a little bit careful so you don't off too much. When you first look at the price of this light bar, you might think it's a little bit high. However when you consider the quality of the fabrication, the fact that this comes right out of the box with a very durable LineX finish on it, you get the flexibility of mounting a couple of different types of lights on here, you get a very unique look, and you're allowed to use your factory front bumper which is going to save you a ton of money.
A lot of other companies, if you wanted to install a bar like this, you would have to install it on their bumper base. Off Camber Fab doesn't make you do that. You can use your factory front bumper, again, saving you a ton of money. So all of those things make me say this is worth the price you have to pay for it. It's gonna drastically change up the look of your Jeep, and it's gonna be a lot cheaper than swapping out your bumper for an aftermarket bumper. And if you don't need the features of an aftermarket bumper, this is going to fit really well.
So if you're looking to change up the look of the front of your Jeep, you want a spot to mount some auxiliary lights or a 10-inch LED light bar, and you like this slightly more modern, a little boxier plate-steel look, this is going to be a really nice option that you can mount directly on your factory front bumper. There's no need to swap out your front bumper with this piece which makes it really unique. So that's my review of the Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP formed front light bar fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
