This MORryde Storegate Tailgate Storage Compartment is for those of you that have a 2007 and up JK and are looking to add a little bit more organization, a little bit more storage into your Jeep in an area that otherwise is underutilized. That inside of the tailgate area is the spot where there are a couple of different organizers that you can put there, but from the factory you don't get to use that space. And if you do throw something in the trunk area of your Jeep that's small, it's gonna roll around. You're not really going to have any sort of organization. And that's where something like this comes in. This is going to add a lockable storage container right on the inside of that tailgate. It's very easy to access. You open the tailgate. It's right there for you. This you can also flip down this diamond plate door, and use that as a table on the inside supporting up to 35 pounds. So it is gonna be pretty strong for you. So overall this is going to add a lot of utility again to an otherwise unutilized space. Now, MORryde isn't the only one who makes a box for that area. Strike Force zebra also makes a box that's designed to be screwed to the inside of your tailgate. However, the Strike Force Zebra box is a little bit more expensive because it includes all six sides of the box. This is actually gonna be open on the back, just using your tailgate as the back for the box. That allows you to mount that Strike Force Zebra box in a variety of different locations, not just on the tailgate. But if you are going to mount it specifically on the tailgate this is a way to get a similar style box, going to be lockable and it's gonna save you some money over that other option. Again, if you wanna be able to mount it in a different location, you want a box that has a back. The Strike Force Zebra is going to be a better choice for you. This box is going to be made out of a plastic material. It's going to be molded with a couple of cup holders in the top as well as another small rectangular storage area up top on the outside of the box. And then, of course, when you open up the lockable area here the door flips down and you have the inside storage area that, as I said, is going to be lockable, so you can keep things nice and secure on the inside. Because of the way this mounts in the Jeep and the fact that this door is actually aluminum diamond plate, you are gonna be able to flip that down and use that as a small table, if you need to, again holding up to 35 pounds assuming that you mount this with all of the screws that are necessary to attach it to your tailgate. That is one area that you are going to have to know before getting into this box. You are going to have to drill some holes onto the inside of your tailgate. If you're not comfortable doing that this is not going to be a good option for you. Getting this installed on your Jeep is going to be a fairly simple process. I'm gonna give a strong one out of three wrenches because you are going to have to drill a couple holes which not everybody is going to be comfortable doing. So the first step in the installation is going to be removing the wire cover that's on the inside of the tailgate from the factory, just get that out of the way. Then you can hold this box up to the inside of the tailgate and figure out exactly where you wanna locate it. Now you do wanna make sure that it's located in a location that you can open and close the tailgate without it interfering and MORryde does give you some pictures on the install instructions to give you a good idea of where they should be. Make sure it's nice and level, exactly where you want it, and then go ahead and mark your holes. From there, you're gonna wanna drill an eighth-inch pilot hole and finally use the self-tapping screws included in the kit to attach it to the Jeep. Now one note when you're drilling those pilot holes. Make sure that you're very, very careful not to go through the inner skin of the tailgate and dimple the outer skin of the tailgate that'll actually be visible from the outside. A good idea while drilling these holes is to use a drill stop if you have one or this is a great excuse to go out and purchase one. They're inexpensive and it will keep you from dimpling your tailgate. This box comes in at just shy of $200 which, like I said before, is a little bit less expensive than the Strike Force Zebra option. If you're going to be mounting your storage on the inside of the tailgate you don't really need all six sides of the box that the Strike Force Zebra offers. So you can save some money by going with this option. So if you're looking to add some lockable storage to the inside of your tailgate, I definitely recommend taking a look at this option from MORryde and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.

I already have an ARB refrigerator that is in the right rear storage area (facing from outside). Will this allow me to have the fridge in the rear compartment and still be able to close the tailgate?
will this fit a 2017 JKU with a rear subwoofer?
What are the dimensions?
The MORryde Storegate Tailgate Storage Compartment is 26" Width x 13" Height x 4 3/8" Depth.

Not worth the money. Door may be aluminum, but the box is plastic. Secured by 8 screws to tailgate, small hinges from plastic box to aluminum door. Says water resistant but the vents for the tailgate are split on the hinge side. I was looking for some type of storage box that will last. Had this been 100 aluminum, alot more money, it would be worth every penny. Good idea but bad material's.
