      Review & Installation Video

This Magellan eXplorist TRX7 navigation system is for those of you that have a 1987 and up Wrangler and are looking for an off-road navigation system. In fact, this doesn't even include on-road navigation. This is all about wheeling your Jeep. So, if you like to hit the trails, but you want to know where you're going, you don't have a good idea of what trails are in your area, this is going to be the unit for you. This is going to come pre-loaded with a ton of off-highway vehicle trails, OHV trails. This is going to give you the ability to update, upgrade, and add whatever new trails are created, and this does use a crowd sourcing system in order to get new trails. So, every time somebody takes this unit off-road with them on a new trail, it gets added to the database and you can update your system. So, this is going to be something that will change and evolve as you own it. It's going to only get better, and it's going to be very, very useful for those of you that are looking to get off-road and hit some new trails that you haven't been on before. As far as the hardware goes, this is a very stout unit. A lot of traditional GPSs for on-road aren't really built to take a lot of abuse. This, however, is. This is going to be a drop-proof case. It's IP67 waterproof rated. It's going to be a nice, large, 7-inch, touchscreen HD display. This also has both 3-D and 2-D topographical maps built into it. It is Wi-Fi enabled, so when you are updating it to add some additional trails onto it, you can just use your Wi-Fi connection. It also has an SD card, so you can go ahead and load them in that way, if you choose to. It comes with, of course, all of the cables and everything that you're going to need to both charge this inside the vehicle and install any updates when you plug it into your computer, as well as a mount to get this mounted up in your Jeep. This is going to install much like a traditional navigation system. It has a suction cup mount. You can get a bunch of other mounts for it, too, if you choose to. Attach the suction cup to your dashboard, snap this into place, run the wire down to your 12-volt plug to keep this thing charged up and powered, and you're good to go. This unit is going to be very tough, very, very functional, and very upgradeable, but for all of those features, you are going to have to pay a bit of a premium. This comes in at $650. Now, the trails that you get from this unit really are going to be invaluable if you're looking to explore areas you've never explored before, so as long as you have the budget, I do think this is going to be worth it. This thing is packed with a ton of features and is going to be very, very useful. So, if you've been looking for an off-road GPS, this is definitely going to be a very nice option for you from Magellan, and you can find it right here at

Know the Trail Ahead. Taking an impromptu trail ride is fun, but having the world's best trails and off-road destinations displayed on your dash is even better. The Magellan eXplorist TRX7 GPS Navigation unit sports the best features any Jeeper would love, in a form-fitting, rugged package that's waterproof and hi-def.

3D Trail Maps and More. The eXplorist knows topography and a 3D view of the trail is critical - afterall, you're not just cruising down the highway. The TRX7's 3D maps provide a real-time view of elevation, hills and valleys, while the 2D topographic view includes contour lines to judge height and terrain features.

Crowd-Sourced Maps. TRX7's database grows every time a fellow Jeeper hits a new trail, with over 82,000 pre-loaded OHV trails available out of the box. The online database is compiled from personal observations of other enthusiasts, so you can be a trailblazer or follow confidently in others' tread marks. You can even connect to social media to share your trail discoveries and past travels with your friends.

Touchscreen Construction. The TRX7 incorporates a 7" high-resolution touchscreen and intuitive menu design for easy navigation and set-up. The TRX7's rugged design includes an IP67 Waterproof Rating, so it can take on mud, rain, snow and the nasty stuff if you decide to hit the trail topless.

Planning Ahead. Integrated trip planning tools offer easy prep before you head out, including trail difficult, conditions, and encountered obstacles. The TRX Trailhead Website acts as a convenient portal on your desktop, tablet or smartphone.

Application. The Magellan eXplorist TRX7 GPS Navigation unit is designed to be the most advanced trail guide in your 1987-2020 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK and JL.

        2 2018 Wrangler - AD

        Chuncky and delayed action

Was slightly disappointed w the unit. Functionality works fine- haven’t had any issues with gps not being accurate. My main gripe being with the 2-3 second delay when pressing buttons and just it’s over sized and chuncky feeling to it. Not really user friendly w ease of function

        Magellan TRX7 Off Road GPS

Great piece of kit. Was delivered very quickly and complete with everything you need to get navigating both on and off road. I really like the ability to download trail files from our state orv maps to my computer and then sync the trails to my device. Having one device for both on and off road navigation is awesome.

        If you get lost....

If you get lost like me this is a must! Best and only off road turn by turn off road navigation device. No extra antenna necessary. Over 100,000 trails in the system. I have never lost GPS service while outdoors. Very nice return to start feature for safety in case you get off track.
