Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com. This is my review of the Barricade tubular fenders fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. These are the fronts, but there are also a matching set of rear flares available, and these will fit on both your two-door and your four-door JK. Depending on how much lift you have, how that lift is set up, and what size tires you're running, your tires may contact your fender flares when you're in an off road situation with the sway bars disconnected and at full flex. If your tire hits your fender flare hard enough, it'll pop it right off and you'll be picking it up off the side of the trail. A flat fender flare like this will help to increase clearance so you can have some more up travel without having any problem with the tire contacting the body. There are two schools of thought when it comes to a metal fender flare like this. You can also get flat fender flares that are plastic. Some people like those because if you rub them on a tree or an off-road obstacle, the flare will bend or maybe break but it won't transfer that impact into the body of the Jeep. A metal flare like this won't bend or break, which some people think is a good thing, however, it can transfer an impact into the body causing a much more expensive repair. It really comes down to what you want for your Jeep. If you like and need a flat fender flare, and you're of the mentality that a metal one will hold up better on the trail, this is a nice option that's a little bit less expensive than some of the other ones on the market. These flares are built from inch and a quarter diameter 0.12-inch wall thickness steel tubing and 5/32 inch steel plate. The whole thing is covered in a two stage textured black powder coat that should resist rust and corrosion pretty well. These are designed to be completely bolt on which makes the installation a pretty easy process. To get these installed on your Jeep, all you need to do is first remove the factory flares. In order to do that, there are a couple of bolts in the wheel well that you have to remove. You'll have to remove your factory light, and then you pretty much just give them a pull and they'll pop off. Chances are you're going to break most of the factory plastic clips holding those fenders in place, but don't worry. You're not going to use those with these. You'll then remove any remnants of those clips that are still in the holes in the body so that you can bolt these up in the same spot. In the process of removing your factory fenders, you're also going to remove your factory inner fender liners. These do not come with instructions on how to trim and reuse your factory inners, however, it is possible. I personally like to run a set of factory inner fender liners because it keeps a lot of junk and mud out of the engine bay. That's especially important on the passenger side because you have a wiring harness right there. Once you get those factory fenders removed and it's time to bolt these ones on, you'll use the included hardware and all of the factory bolt holes to get these attached. The process is really simple, and the installation should take you about two hours per pair. If you're just installing the front, expect two hours. If you're installing fronts and the matching rears, you're going to be at about half of a day. You won't need any specialty tools for this installation process just a good set of sockets and a trim tool to remove those plastic clips. These are priced pretty fairly when you compare them to other metal flat fender flares on the market. The welds might not be as pretty, but the finish is really nice. It comes down to what you want for your Jeep. If you're somebody who goes off road a lot and you expect to be rubbing these on trees and rocks and other obstacles, then maybe the welds and the finish aren't as important and this is a good way to save a couple of dollars. If you're somebody who stays on the road a lot and you're looking for something that's more aesthetically appealing as far as the welds go, maybe you take a look at one of those more expensive options. That's my review of the Barricade tubular fenders fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.

Aggressive Off Road Design. Specifically engineered to provide your rig with extra clearance off road, these Barricade Off-Road tubular fender flares are made to take a beating. Providing you with more space for articulation is only half of the excitement surrounding these flares, as they'll also give your JK or JKU aggressive styling that can only be reached with tactical powder coated tubular flares.

Heavy Duty Construction. Manufactured for durability, these flares are crafted from 5/32 steel sheet and durable 1.25" x 0.120" tubing to take on anything the trail throws its way. These armored flares are finished in a two stage epoxy pre-coating and high-grade textured black powder coating for long lasting durability and corrosion resistance, no matter where the trail takes you.

Warranty and Installation.  This pair of front tubular fenders is backed by Barricade Off-Road's 3 year limited warranty for the most in value and reliability. Your fenders will come with everything necessary for installation including a rubber seal to protect your body paint in the event you need to return to stock. This kit does not require any drilling or extra modification for a painless, bolt on installation.

Application. The Barricade Off-Road Tubular Front Fender Pair is designed for use on all 2007-2017 Jeep Wrangler JK models.

How wide are these? I have 35 12.5s and with the stock fender flare they stick out about 1.5" I want to keep that popped out look.

Can anyone tell me where I could find the hardware for these? Just to order the hardware alone? Or the specs? Already have fenders but misplaced the hardware.

Shannen

  • To install the Barricade Tubular Front Fender you will need 16 m8x1.25 bolts with a 25mm underhead length, 16 matching m8x1.25 nuts, and 16 washers. Use of stainless steel hardware, and lock nuts are strongly advised. Currently we do not sell the hardware separate from the fender flares. Be advised, depending on the manufacturer of the bolt, we have seen wrench sizes between 10mm and 13mm for these bolts/nuts.

Beware when you order this! Be prepared when you have these shipped to you that they WILL have scratches and/or gauges in them and the powder coating will be scrapped off. The way that they packaged them together makes the flares rub against each other causing them to have scratches. I told them about the problem and they were kind enough to send me another pair, but unfortunately I had the same problem on the new ones! The overall look of them I like, just disappointed that I will have to spend more money to have my local powder coating shop re do them

Review from Barricade Tubular Rear Fender - Pair (07-17 Wrangler JK)

You get what you pay for

Quite possibly the worst product I could have put on my jeep. Install was terrible, nothing lines up...managed to finally get them on. Started to rust within 3 month ( I live in Nevada...we don't have a rust issue here)! Have had them on almost a year now and the powder coating is starting to bubble up and flake off. Actually embarrassing to look at...going to remove them and pay the money for better fenders. Everything I have bought from them goes on perfectly. They only positive I will give on these fenders is they did look nice upon initial install. Save your money on this one though.

    Honest review

This is a sturdy bumper and overall it looks good. Just start the nuts on the bolts and leave them loose until you have all of them on. The holes didn't line up exactely and I needed to use this method so I could get the bolts in all of the holes. The powder coating on mine was put on well but however where they store the fenders after being made is not helping them keep it. Like in other reviews I did have rub marks and even a spot where the powder coating chipped off. The gasket material that comes with the kit is not shown in any picture on this website and it is not in the instructions on where and how to put it on. It goes behind the top lip of the fender with the flat part of the gasket behind and the tubular part of the gasket still showing on top. Again good construction, cosmetics need work by storing and shipping properly, and the holes were almost lined up.

    Heavy Duty Flares!!! Nice!!!

Awesome price for a set of heavy duty fender flares. Only drawback was finish , as flare paint was rubbed thru and chipped in a few areas. No problem bedliner paint can't fix. Overall great deal and would recommend.

    Metal fender flares

Bang for the buck it's a great flare. The holes line up pretty well but you will to open up a few of the mounting holes with a drill. I used double side 3m tape to stick the rubber seal worked good for the front. The flare fits right over top of the original body flare mount so no body cutting is required.

Review from Barricade Tubular Rear Fender - Pair (07-17 Wrangler JK)

    Read before buying

This fender won't go on a 2013 Jeep out of the box with the hardware they give you. This is a sturdy bumper and overall it looks good. I had to send mine back though. They send you nuts and bolts to put the fender on with, but their is only two of the holes that you can get to the backside in order to put the nut on the bolt. The rest of the holes are closed off by the Jeep body. The powder coating on mine was put on well however, where they store the fenders after being made is not helping them keep it. Like in other reviews I did have rub marks and even a spot where the powder coating chipped off. The gasket material that comes with the kit is not shown in any picture on this website and it is not in the instructions on where and how to put it on. horrible fit

None of the holes lined up, the ribbets did not stay in place. Had to tack ribbets to body in order for screw to go in with backing the ribbets out. I highly doubt not recommend this product. Way more hassle than worth. If I could give a 1/4 of a star I would.

    Horrible fitment

The front fenders went with just a little hassle but overall fit well. The rear ones fitment was absolutely horrible. The ribbets that you screw the fenders into kept popping out. Had to weld them to the body to make them stay. Fenders didn't have enough curve on top to fill in big gap. Overall the back ones were a nightmare to install. Will never buy again!

Great product at a very reasonable price

I love these flares, very strong, and a great shape for the Jeep. The only issue was when the flares were painted the paint didn't get in the seams very well. ET completely stood behind the product and immediately mailed me a complete paint touch up kit at no charge.
