Generally constructed of thin steel, it sits below the crankcase and collects oil from it when the engine is at rest. During an oil change, a mechanic or car owner must remove the oil drain plug on the outside of the pan to allow old oil to empty out. The most common problem with Jeep YJ oil pans and components is leakage. If the part is cracked or the seals on the drain plug are distorted, your engine could lose the vital oil it needs for lubrication, cooling, and cleaning.
