The exhaust system in your Jeep YJ performs one simple and important function—it removes expended gases to make room for fresh ones. These burnt gases are moved out of the engine and through the exhaust manifold before they enter a series of pipes and are cleaned by the catalytic converter and pushed out of the tailpipe. Another important part of the system is the muffler, which is located between the manifold and the catalytic converter and absorbs the sound of onrushing gases.
