Hey, what's up, guys? I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain and today, I'm here with the Teraflex Heavy Duty Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit, fitting your 2007 to 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK. It's gonna be for the Jeep owner that is looking to upgrade or already upgraded to aftermarket wheels and tires and wants something a little stronger than that stock mount to hold all that extra weight. It's the perfect option over an aftermarket bumper and tire carrier setup because it's gonna save you money and you don't have that tire carrier in your way. This system is gonna work with aftermarket bumpers and your stock bumper, and allows you to fit up to a 35-inch tire with just this assembly, and a 37-inch tire with Teraflex's Heavy-Duty Hinged setup. This kit is fully adjustable, comes complete, and even reuses factory mounting points, so there is no drilling or modification required. With this system, you're getting a heavy duty aluminum setup that is rather light, but very strong and has a black powder coating that's gonna add to that corrosion resistance and give you an aggressive look. This whole system's gonna give you that factory fit, finish, and appearance that you're looking for while saving you money at the same time. This carrier is reasonably priced, considering what you get, and you're getting a very nice item by one of the best names in the business. At just around $200, I think this is a great option to go with and, as far as installation goes, I am gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter as you can get this thing installed in about an hour. With that being said, let's hop into the install.Tools we use for this install: 3/8 drive impact, 19-millimeter socket, 17-millimeter socket, 13-millimeter socket, socket extension, 17-millimeter wrench. We're gonna begin this installation by removing our rear spare tire. So we're gonna use a 19-millimeter socket to take these three lug nuts off, then we'll pull our tire off.So the next thing you're gonna do is you're gonna disconnect your third brake light. Now, our Jeep here doesn't have a wiring harness, but this harness is gonna go up inside of here. You can open up your tailgate. You're gonna have this little panel in here. Pull that panel off. You can disconnect the plug. Since we do not have that, we're just gonna take this off. So we're gonna use a 13-millimeter socket on an extension, and we're gonna take all eight of these bolts out. Before you get that last bolt out, you wanna put a hand on that, then we can pull it away from the vehicle. So before we get this new tire carrier installed, I just want to take a moment to tell you a little bit about what it's made of, what it's gonna do for your Jeep and how it compares to your stock one. So, if you've already upgraded or you're looking to upgrade to aftermarket larger wheels and tires, your stock mount is not really going to hold up to that. It's designed for a specific amount of weight, and when you start throwing larger items on there, it's really not gonna hold up. Not only that, but larger tires are gonna drop down even further. They're gonna hit your factory bumper, and they're not gonna allow you to shut your tailgate. So, if you're looking for a very nice aftermarket item, this option from Teraflex is a great way to go. This carrier has multiple options to mount studs on. It's gonna allow you to fit up to a 35-inch tire and it's gonna support it very nicely. Now, if you're running a 37-inch tire, which this will fit, I would recommend going with the Teraflex Heavy-Duty Hinged setup that is also available with this. That's gonna support that added weight and it is not gonna allow your tailgate to sag, really cause a lot of stress, maybe crack any welds. This whole thing is relatively easy to install. I'm gonna show you how to do that in a minute. And if you wanna reuse your factory third brake light, you can actually cut this section off. Teraflex even gives you a bracket to mount that on. If you don't want to mess this up, which you will be permanently modifying your stock carrier mount, you can go with an aftermarket light setup if you would like. So, that's pretty much all I have to say about this item. So let's show you how to get it installed and what it looks like on the Jeep. So, we're ready to install this. We're gonna start with our base plate first, and we're gonna reuse that factory hardware. Now, we have these gaskets that we're gonna stick in between. This is so this doesn't scratch the finish. So, I'm gonna show you how to do that right now.So we're gonna place a gasket behind this, we're gonna take one of our factory bolts, and we're just gonna get this top section started. Now, on this side, on the passenger side of the tailgate, we're gonna use spacers. So we're gonna put our gasket underneath of our spacers. I'm gonna place those behind this and then get those bolted. Same thing goes for the bottom. We're gonna place that spacer and that gasket behind that. The next thing we're gonna do is take our 13-millimeter socket, we're gonna lift this thing up, and tighten all these bolts. After we tighten them all, we're gonna torque them to 15 foot-pounds.So the next thing we're gonna do is install this piece. Before you get this piece installed, you need to install the studs that come with this kit. You're gonna have three holes. This section is gonna face up. This bottom hole is for 33s, 35s, and 37s. So we have 35s. We're gonna put this in the middle hole. We already pressed these in. You can just use a hammer to smack them in from the backside. Now, we're gonna install this on to our plate. So we have all of our hardware set up. So I'm gonna show you how to do that right now.So we're gonna take the two long bolts that we get in the kit. We're gonna start with the first one. So the first one, we're gonna put a flat washer on there. We're gonna have these little spacers. These are gonna go on either side of this center section. So we're gonna go through one, put another one on the other side, then when we go out the other side, it's gonna get a flat washer and a nut. Now, for the other bolt, this bolt is just gonna go through the backside. It's not gonna go through this piece. It's just gonna go all the way through, and then that's gonna get a washer and a nut on the other side as well. So, once you get this adjusted out as far as you need it to fit your tire, we're gonna take a 17-millimeter socket and a wrench. We're gonna tighten these two bolts up.So the next thing you wanna do is take your wheel and tire, set it up here on the mount, make sure that everything fits, the width of the tire, the height of the tire. After that, you're gonna take those two bolts, torque them down to 55 foot-pounds. So, we already did that. We're gonna put this tire back on.We're gonna reinstall our lug nuts. So, we get those on and we're gonna take our 19 and tighten them up. So, like I said, if you want to reuse that factory third brake light, you get plenty of hardware to do that. Instead of putting these two top lug nuts on, get these brand new lug nuts and this bracket's gonna attach to the top of those. So, once you get this whole thing installed and that tire is back on, you wanna make sure that your tire fits tight up against the tailgate. That's gonna keep it from rattling around. However, that's gonna wrap up my review and install. For more videos like this, check us out on extremeterrain.com.
