I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper with Stinger and Winch Mount, fitting all 1987 to 2006 Wranglers. Today we're gonna talk about the construction and some of the features of this bumper. A stubby bumper is gonna be for those of you who want that aggressive off-road look and want to provide as much clearance as possible to the tires. When you're doing hardcore wheeling and you have big wheels and tires, you wanna be able to come up to a ledge and get that tire to contact the ledge without having the bumper in the way. And that is a great reason to run a stubby bumper. A stubby bumper with a stinger like this adds some additional style and also some additional function. The main purpose of a stinger originally was, when you're doing some really hard core wheeling, you come down off of an obstacle and there's a chance that you could flip forward, that the stinger would hit the ground and then push the Jeep to one side or the other, keeping you on all four tires. Another function of the really tall stinger is that if you were to roll over, the stinger supports the weight of the front of the Jeep, so you don't crush your radiator, you can put the Jeep back over and get it fired back up again. Now, today's stingers are more of a styling mod than anything else. A lot of us aren't doing that kind of hardcore wheeling that we need a stinger to be functional, and some of us just like the look. So, whether you're just looking for the look of a stinger or you want functionality, this is gonna be a good option. However, the gussets that are on this stinger are more for looks than anything else. So it's not going to be quite as functional as some of the beefier stronger stingers will be. This is gonna be a bumper that is a little bit less expensive than some of the others on the market and will save you some money while still giving you some function and some style. As far as construction goes, this is a steel bumper covered in a textured black powder coat finish, and it is very solid. For a stubby bumper, this thing weighs a lot. It's gonna be very strong, it's going to definitely protect your front end. As far as features, as I mentioned before, this is the version of this bumper that has a winch mount built into it. So it's ready to accept your fair lead and it's already predrilled for a standard winch footprint. It allows you to bolt the winch up to it without needing to buy an additional winch plate. The bumper, of course, has the stinger that we mentioned before which has a big visual impact on the front of your Jeep. The hole in the front is more of a styling thing although I guess you could hook your winch line to it when the winch isn't in use. But again this is going to have a large visual impact on your Jeep. You also have a couple of D-Ring mounts right here, and this bumper does come with the two D-Rings. So you're gonna be able to do any recoveries, you're gonna be able to use a snatch block with your winch and come back to your Jeep, or use a snatch strap or tow strap to help you or your buddy get out of a mud hole or out of a situation where you got yourself high centered. One thing that this bumper doesn't have and part of the reason it doesn't have it is because it's stubby and there's not a lot of real estate, are additional light mounts. Some bumpers with more traditional hoops that don't have stingers will have a couple of light mounts on them or the bumper may be drilled for light mounts. This doesn't have that. It's not the end of the world if you wanted to drill this bumper to allow you to mount a single post-traditional light. You could certainly do that, you could also fab some other tabs up, there's a lot you could do with these bumpers. However, right out of the box, this is not going to have a spot to mount any auxiliary lights. Getting this bumper installed on your Jeep is gonna be a very simple process. On a TJ, there are just a couple of bolts that go into the top of the bumper and the top of the frame rail, and two large torque folds [SP] that go through the bottom of the bumper, end of the bottom of the frame rail. Once you have all that hardware removed, your factory bumper will pop right off, you can set this one over the frame horn and bolt it down with the included hardware. The installation of this bumper shouldn't take you more than an hour and you certainly won't need any specialty tools, although you will need a set of torque spits as I mentioned before. Now, any time you're installing a winch bumper, in my opinion, it's always a good idea to bolt the winch on to the bumper before bolting the bumper on to the Jeep. This may be counter-intuitive because now I have this big heavy awkward massive bumper and winch that I have to wrestle on to the front of the Jeep. However, once you bolt the bumper on to the Jeep, it can be very difficult to get to the winch mounting bolts. Which is why I always recommend attaching the winch to the bumper and then putting the whole piece onto the Jeep. For that reason, you might wanna have an extra set of hands around because again, this does get a little bit big and bulky. Now as far is the price and the value of this bumper go, I think you do get a lot of value for the cost. RedRock 4x4 is known for making products that are a little bit on the lower end of the price range, but this is a really, really solid bumper. You really do get what you pay for, the powder coat is solid, the construction and the quality of the build is all there, it comes with the D-Ring so you're not buying those separately. So as long as you like the functions and the sort of minimalist style that you get from this bumper, I'd say it's a great buy. So if you're looking to upgrade the factory front bumper on your YJ or your TJ to something that's going to provide more style, more function, and more protection, I think that this bumper is a really nice option at a fair price.
