I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com and this is my review of the RedRock 4x4 hitch available for all 1987-2006 Wranglers. This is available in the gloss black powder coat that you see here, and it's also available in a textured black powder coat. This is for those of you who want to be able to tow a light trailer with your Wrangler but don't currently have a hitch. Your weight you are able to tow is not limited by the hitch itself, but more by the Wrangler. The Wrangler will be able to tow 2000 pounds with the maximum of 200-pound ton weight capacity. Now, you won't be able to re-use your factory rear bumper with this hitch so you'll need to either purchase a tubular aftermarket rear bumper or you won't be able to run a rear bumper at all. Now, in my opinion, this hitch is really inexpensively priced, especially for what you get. This hitch is made of steel and it's covered in your choice of a gloss black powder coat or a textured black powder coat. And that's important because with a tubular rear bumper you are going to see a good bit of this hitch so you want to make sure that it looks good. It's gusseted so you're going to get plenty of strength from it. Again, this is not going to limit you to a weight capacity, but you will be limited by the Jeep itself. These are designed to be completely bolt-on, which makes installation pretty easy. As I mentioned, getting this installed on the Jeep is a pretty simple process. The first step is to remove whatever bumper you currently have on the Jeep, whether it's factory or you already have a tubular bumper. That's going to give you the room you need to get this installed nice and easy. If you are removing a factory TJ bumper, there are two bolts that go into the side of either frame rail and two that go in underneath the bumper, through the bumper into the frame that way. In order to get to the bolts on the sides, you will have to remove the bumper ends if you still have them installed and there are a couple of Torx bolts to remove to get those taken off. Once the factory or aftermarket bumper is out of the way, it's just a matter of bolting your new hitch onto the rear cross member using all of the included hardware. There are a couple of backing plates that are also included to give this hitch all of the strength it needs. The whole installation for the hitch shouldn't take you more than an hour, but it may take you a little bit longer to get your factory bumper or aftermarket bumper off and get your tubular bumper re-installed. I think that this hitch is reasonably priced. When you look at it, there isn't a whole lot to it, but for what it is, I think it's well built and the finish on it looks really nice as well. It is important to remember that if you want a finished product with the bumper you are going to have to purchase a tubular bumper if you don't already have one, so that may add a little bit to the price of your final product. So if you're looking to add a two-inch receiver onto your Wrangler, for towing a light trailer or for recovery purposes, I think that this is a nice option. It's important to remember that you will have to purchase a tubular rear bumper if you want to re-install a bumper because you can't have the factory bumper installed with this hitch. But as long as you're okay running a tubular bumper, or if you already have one, I think this is a nice option. So, that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 hitch fitting all 1987-2006 Wranglers that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com
